완도군(군수 신우철)이 일본 대도시와의 교류·협력을 본격화한다. 군은 지난 4일부터 5일까지 이틀간 일본과의 교류 확대를 위한 정책 간담회와 현장 시찰을 진행했다.

4일에는 해양치유센터 등 주요 시설을 둘러보았으며, 5일에는 군수 주재로 농수산물 해외 판로 확대, 해양치유 및 관광산업의 글로벌 경쟁력 강화를 주제로 간담회가 열렸다.

이 자리에서는 농수산물 수출 확대 방안, 친환경 스마트 농수산업 협력, 일본 관광객 유치 전략 등이 집중 논의됐다.

또한 일본 교류 협력 전문가 홍만표 박사(세종시 해외협력단장)와 지호선 (사)스마트치유산업포럼 사무총장이 초청돼 국제 교류 트렌드와 일본 대도시와의 지속 가능한 협력 모델에 대한 심도 있는 자문을 제공했다.

홍 박사는 “일본은 한국 지방정부가 교류하기 가장 가까운 파트너이며, 단순한 우호를 넘어 공동 과제 해결형 교류로 발전해야 한다.”며 완도군의 국제화 전략에 기대감을 나타냈다.

신우철 군수는 “지금이야말로 지방정부가 국경을 넘어 주도적으로 협력해야 할 시기”라며 “일본 지자체와의 네트워크를 강화해 특산품 수출과 해양치유산업 활성화 등 지역 발전의 새로운 기회를 만들어가겠다.”고 강조했다.
완도군은 오는 12월 일본을 방문해 실질적인 교류 전략을 마련하고, 업무 협약 체결, 상호 방문, 실무 교류 등을 단계적으로 추진할 계획이다.

Wando County Expands Exchanges with Major Japanese Cities
Strategic meeting held on agricultural and marine product exports, marine healing, and tourism promotion
Wando County (Governor Shin Woo-cheol) is set to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with major Japanese cities. From September 4 to 5, the county held policy discussions and site visits to expand bilateral cooperation.
On the 4th, participants toured key facilities including the Marine Healing Center, and on the 5th, a meeting chaired by the governor was convened to discuss strategies for expanding overseas markets for agricultural and marine products, and enhancing global competitiveness in marine healing and tourism industries.
Key topics included expanding exports of agricultural and marine products, promoting eco-friendly smart agriculture and fisheries, and strategies to attract Japanese tourists.
Experts in Japan exchange cooperation were also invited, including Dr. Hong Man-pyo (Director of International Cooperation, Sejong City) and Ji Ho-seon (Secretary General of the Smart Healing Industry Forum), who provided in-depth advice on international exchange trends and sustainable cooperation models with Japanese metropolitan areas.
Dr. Hong remarked, “Japan is the closest partner for Korean local governments to engage with. It is time to move beyond simple friendship toward cooperation that solves common challenges,” expressing high expectations for Wando County’s globalization strategy.
Governor Shin Woo-cheol stated, “Now is the time for local governments to take the lead in cross-border cooperation. By strengthening networks with Japanese municipalities, we will create new opportunities for regional development, including the export of local specialties and revitalization of the marine healing industry.”
Wando County plans to visit Japan in December to establish practical exchange strategies and will sequentially promote agreements, reciprocal visits, and working-level cooperation.
