진도군, ‘시니어 의사 채용’, 공공의료 공백 해소 기대

진도군이 보건복지부와 국립중앙의료원이 추진하는 ‘시니어 의사 활용 시범사업’ 공모에 전남 최초로 선정돼, 신경외과 전문의 1명을 신규 채용했다.

시니어 의사는 은퇴 후에도 의료 현장에서 활동을 이어가는 경력 의사로, 고령 인구가 많은 농어촌지역의 의사 인력 부족 문제 해결에 도움이 될 전망이다.

이번 채용으로 진도군 보건소는 주민 진료와 상담은 물론 보건예방사업과 예방접종 업무까지 원활히 추진할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

김희수 진도군수는 “시니어 의사의 숙련된 경험이 지역 의료서비스 향상에 큰 힘이 될 것”이라며 “앞으로도 군민 건강을 지키는 데 최선을 다하겠다.”고 말했다.

Jindo County Hires Senior Doctor to Address Public Healthcare Gap
Jindo County has become the first in Jeollanam-do to be selected for the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the National Medical Center’s Senior Doctor Utilization Pilot Project, hiring a neurosurgeon as part of the program.
A senior doctor refers to an experienced physician who continues to practice after retirement. The initiative is expected to help alleviate the shortage of medical personnel in rural areas with high elderly populations.
With this recruitment, the Jindo County Public Health Center will be able to provide more comprehensive medical services, including patient treatment, consultations, public health initiatives, and vaccination programs.
Governor Kim Hee-su stated, “The extensive experience of the senior doctor will greatly enhance medical services in our region. We will continue to do our utmost to safeguard the health of our residents.”
