진도군의회, ‘목포-진도항 호남고속철도 노선 연장 건의안’ 채택

진도군의회(의장 박금례)는 지난 16일 제310회 임시회에서 「목포-진도항 호남고속철도 노선 연장 건의안」을 만장일치로 채택했다.

이 건의안은 광역교통 인프라 확충과 지역균형발전을 위해, 호남고속철도를 목포에서 진도항까지 연장하는 노선을 제5차 국가철도망 구축계획에 반드시 반영해야 한다는 내용을 담고 있다.

진도군은 연간 300만 명 이상의 관광객을 유치하고 있으며, 진도항을 통한 물동량 또한 증가 추세지만, 현재 고속도로 및 철도망과의 연결성은 매우 열악하여 주민과 방문객의 교통 불편이 지속되고 있다.

박금례 의장은 “목포-진도항 고속철도 노선 연장은 단순한 철도 건설이 아니라, 관광객 유치와 물류 흐름을 모두 지원할 수 있는 미래지향적 사업”이라며 “이 사업이 진도의 지속 가능한 발전을 여는 첫걸음이 되도록 최선을 다하겠다.”고 말했다.

진도군의회는 채택된 건의안을 대통령 비서실, 국회, 국무총리실, 국토교통부 등 관계기관에 전달하고, 관련 절차 진행과 정책 반영을 위한 후속 대응을 이어 나갈 계획이다.

Jindo County Council Adopts Proposal to Extend Honam High-Speed Rail Line to Jindo Port
The Jindo County Council (Chairperson Park Geum-rye) unanimously adopted a proposal to extend the Honam High-Speed Rail Line from Mokpo to Jindo Port during its 310th special session held on the 16th.
The proposal calls for the inclusion of the Mokpo–Jindo Port section in the 5th National Railway Network Construction Plan, stressing the importance of expanding metropolitan transportation infrastructure and promoting balanced regional development.
Jindo County attracts more than 3 million tourists annually, and cargo volumes through Jindo Port continue to grow. However, the region remains severely disadvantaged due to its weak connections to expressways and railway networks, resulting in ongoing transportation inconvenience for residents and visitors alike.
Chairperson Park stated, “The extension of the Honam High-Speed Rail Line to Jindo Port is not simply a matter of railway construction. It is a forward-looking project that will support both tourism growth and logistics flows. We will do our utmost to ensure this becomes the first step toward Jindo’s sustainable development.”
The council announced that the adopted proposal will be delivered to the Presidential Office, the National Assembly, the Prime Minister’s Office, and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. It also pledged to continue follow-up measures to secure policy inclusion and project advancement.
