지난 7월 1일 해남에 부임한 박춘천 해남소방서장은 부임과 동시에 ‘군민 안전 수호’를 최우선 과제로 삼았다.

그는 “소방서장의 직책에는 휴일이 없습니다. 사건·사고는 예고 없이 찾아오기 때문”이라며 책임감을 강조했다.

최근 해남읍 일대에서 시간당 100mm가 넘는 폭우가 쏟아진 날, 박 서장은 현장 지휘 차량을 타고 고립된 주택가로 달렸다.

빗줄기는 폭포처럼 쏟아지고 도로 곳곳은 물에 잠겼다. “차량이 잠길 수 있는 위험 속에서도 한 사람이라도 구해야 한다는 생각뿐이었습니다.”

그는 급류에 휩쓸릴 뻔한 주민들을 소방대원들과 함께 구조하며, 현장의 긴박함과 팀워크의 중요성을 절감했다.

“그 순간, 생명을 지킨다는 것이 어떤 의미인지 다시 한번 깨달았습니다.”

또한 여름철 벌집 제거 출동은 박 서장에게 매년 반복되는 긴장감이다.

“사소해 보이지만, 벌 쏘임은 생명을 위협할 수 있는 사고입니다.

작은 출동 하나에도 결코 소홀할 수 없습니다.

실제로 최근 한 마을에서 벌집 제거 중 발생한 사고를 신속히 처리하며 주민 안전을 확보했다.

박 서장은 전기차 화재, 산불, 태풍 등 미래형 재난에도 대비하고 있다.

전문 교육을 받고 장비를 점검하며, 언제든 현장으로 달려갈 준비를 마쳤다. 그는 “재난은 예고 없이 찾아옵니다.

저는 그 순간 최전선에서 군민 곁을 지키는 것이 제 소명이라고 생각합니다.”라고 말했다.

휴일 없는 자리, 언제 닥칠지 모르는 위험과 맞서 싸우는 현장. 박춘천 서장의 굳은 의지와 신속한 판단, 철저한 대비는 오늘도 해남 군민의 안전을 든든히 지키고 있다.

Park Chun-cheon, who assumed his post as Chief of Haenam Fire Station on July 1, immediately prioritized “protecting the safety of residents” as his foremost mission.
“The position of fire chief comes with no holidays. Incidents and accidents strike without warning,” he emphasized, underscoring his sense of responsibility.
Recently, during a heavy downpour exceeding 100mm per hour in the Haenam-eup area, Chief Park rushed in the command vehicle to reach a neighborhood where residents were trapped.
The rain poured like a waterfall, and roads were submerged. “Even with the risk of the vehicle getting stuck, my only thought was to save at least one person,” he recalled.
He, along with his firefighters, rescued residents who were nearly swept away by the rushing waters, realizing the critical importance of teamwork in urgent situations.
“At that moment, I truly understood what it means to save a life,” he said.
Summer also brings a surge in beehive removal calls, a recurring tension every year for Chief Park. “It may seem minor, but bee stings can threaten lives. Even a small call cannot be taken lightly,” he explained. Recently, he swiftly managed an incident during a hive removal in a village, ensuring the safety of residents.
Chief Park also prepares for emerging disasters such as electric vehicle fires, wildfires, and typhoons. He undergoes specialized training and inspects equipment, always ready to respond on site. “Disasters arrive without warning. At that moment, standing on the front lines to protect residents is my calling,” he stated.
In a role with no holidays, confronting unpredictable dangers head-on, Park Chun-cheon’s unwavering determination, quick decision-making, and thorough preparedness continue to firmly safeguard the lives and safety of Haenam residents today.
