조연주 해남교육장 “함께하는 지역공동체, 천년의 미래를 여는 해남교육” 비전 제시

전라남도해남교육지원청 제32대 교육장으로 조연주 교육장이 9월 1일 부임했다.

조 교육장은 1989년 송지중학교에서 교직을 시작한 이후 신안팔금중, 목포유달중, 무안북중, 목포제일여자고, 조도고 등에서 학생 중심의 교육을 실천해왔다.

또한 전라남도교육청 정책기획관·감사관 장학사로서 교육정책 수립과 현장 지원을 담당했으며, 목포교육지원청 교육과장을 거쳐 황산중학교 교장으로 재직하며 공감과 소통의 리더십으로 건강한 학교문화를 이끌어왔다.

부임 인사에서 조연주 교육장은 “해남은 전남에서 가장 넓은 고장이자, 우리 아이들의 미래를 책임지는 교육의 중심지”라며 “명량의 역사와 땅끝의 희망, 대흥사·미황사·녹우당·공룡화석지 등 풍부한 교육 자산을 활용해 해남의 가치와 정체성을 살리고, 이를 토대로 지역을 선도하는 인재를 길러내겠다”고 밝혔다.

조 교육장은 해남교육의 새로운 비전으로 ‘함께하는 지역공동체, 천년의 미래를 여는 해남교육’을 제시하며, 이를 실현하기 위한 세 가지 방향을 강조했다.

첫째, 학교가 교육 본연의 역할에 집중할 수 있도록 흔들림 없는 든든한 동반자가 되겠다.

둘째, 학생·학부모·교직원·지역사회가 함께 소통하고 신뢰하는 교육공동체를 만들겠다.

셋째, 안전하고 쾌적한 교육 환경을 조성해 아이들이 안심하고 미래를 꿈꿀 수 있도록 하겠다.

특히 조 교육장은 “교육은 단순히 지식을 전달하는 것을 넘어, 학생들에게 공감과 감동을 심어주는 과정이어야 한다.”며 “아이들의 마음을 이해하고 그들의 꿈을 키워주는 교육이 곧 해남교육의 사명”이라고 강조했다.

이어 “지속가능하고 희망찬 해남교육을 위해 교육가족 모두의 지혜와 열정을 모아 나가겠다.”며 “교직원들이 자신의 역량을 마음껏 발휘하고 자부심을 느낄 수 있도록 아낌없이 지원하겠다.”는 굳은 의지를 밝혔다.

Superintendent Jo Yeon-joo Presents Vision for Haenam Education:
“A United Local Community, Opening a Millennium Future for Haenam Education”
― Commitment to Building a Sustainable Haenam Education with Empathy and Inspiration ―
Jo Yeon-joo assumed office as the 32nd Superintendent of the Jeollanam-do Haenam Office of Education on September 1.
Superintendent Jo began her teaching career in March 1989 at Songji Middle School and has since dedicated herself to student-centered education at schools such as Palkum Middle School in Sinan, Yudal Middle School in Mokpo, Buk Middle School in Muan, Mokpo Jeil Girls’ High School, and Jodo High School.
She also served as a supervisor in the Policy Planning and Audit Offices of the Jeollanam-do Office of Education, where she contributed to policy development and field support. Later, as Head of the Education Division at the Mokpo Office of Education, she worked to balance education administration with school support. Most recently, she served as Principal of Hwangsan Middle School, where she fostered a healthy school culture through leadership grounded in empathy and communication.
In her inaugural address, Superintendent Jo stated,
“Haenam is the largest county in Jeollanam-do and a key region bearing great educational responsibility. By utilizing Haenam’s rich educational assets—including the historic legacy of Myeongnyang, the hope of the Land’s End, Daeheungsa and Mihwangsa Temples, the House of Yun Seon-do, and the dinosaur fossil site—we will nurture talent rooted in the values and identity of Haenam, so they may grow into leaders for the region.”
She went on to present a new vision for Haenam education: “A United Local Community, Opening a Millennium Future for Haenam Education.” To realize this vision, she outlined three key directions:
To be a steadfast partner, enabling schools to focus on their true educational mission.
To build a trusted educational community through open communication among students, parents, educators, and the wider local society.
To create a safe and pleasant educational environment where children can learn with peace of mind and dream of their future.
Superintendent Jo emphasized,
“Education must go beyond the simple transfer of knowledge; it should be a process of moving students’ hearts with empathy and inspiration. Understanding our students and nurturing their dreams is the very mission of Haenam education.”
She further pledged,
“For a sustainable and hopeful Haenam education, we will gather the wisdom and passion of all members of the education family. I will provide full support so that teachers can exercise their abilities to the fullest and work with pride and joy.”
