“학생 마음의 위기, 학교에서 먼저 살핀다”…해남교육지원청, Wee클래스 맞춤형 컨설팅

학생들의 심리·정서적 어려움을 학교 현장에서 조기에 발견하고 위기학생에 대한 지원 역량을 높이기 위한 맞춤형 상담 컨설팅이 해남지역 학교를 대상으로 진행된다.

전남광주통합특별시해남교육지원청(교육장 조연주)은 학교 상담 활성화와 위기학생 지원 역량 강화를 위해 ‘2026 Wee클래스 컨설팅’을 운영하고 있다고 밝혔다.

이번 컨설팅은 8월부터 9월까지 Wee클래스 신규 전문상담교사가 배치된 학교와 컨설팅을 희망하는 학교를 대상으로 진행된다.

일률적인 상담 프로그램을 적용하기보다 각 학교의 Wee클래스 운영 현황과 학생 특성, 학교가 실제 현장에서 겪고 있는 어려움을 살펴보고 학교별 여건에 맞는 효율적인 상담 운영과 위기학생 관리 방안을 함께 찾는 데 초점을 맞췄다.

첫 컨설팅은 지난 8월 25일 해남공업고등학교에서 진행됐다.
해남공고는 29학급에 학생 363명이 재학 중인 특성화고등학교로 개인·집단상담을 비롯해 심리검사, 또래상담, 학업중단숙려제, 정서행동특성검사, 멘토링, 지역사회 연계 등 다양한 상담·학생 지원 프로그램을 운영하고 있다.

특히 해남공고는 앞으로 마이스터고 전환을 앞두고 있어 교육과정 개편과 현장실습 확대, 기숙사 생활 증가 등 학생들의 학교생활 전반에 상당한 변화가 예상되고 있다.

이에 이번 컨설팅에서는 마이스터고 전환 이후 달라질 학교환경에 맞춰 Wee클래스가 어떤 역할을 해야 하는지가 주요 과제로 다뤄졌다.

교육과정 변화에 따른 상담 프로그램 재설계와 운영 방향을 비롯해 현장실습 과정에서 발생할 수 있는 학생들의 심리·정서적 어려움이나 위기 상황에 대응하기 위한 교내 협업체계 구축 방안 등이 논의됐다.

또 학교 밖 현장실습과 조기 취업 등으로 상담실을 직접 방문하기 어려운 학생들을 위한 비대면 상담 방안과 지역 유관기관과의 연계체계 강화 등 특성화고의 현실을 반영한 상담 지원 방안도 함께 모색했다.

해남교육지원청 Wee센터는 이번 컨설팅을 단순한 운영 점검에 그치지 않고 학교 현장의 어려움과 요구를 구체적으로 파악해 학교별 상황에 맞는 상담체계를 마련하는 데 활용한다는 방침이다.

특히 학생의 위기 징후를 조기에 발견하고 전문상담교사와 담임교사, 학교 관리자, 보호자, 지역 전문기관 등이 유기적으로 연계할 수 있는 지원체계를 강화해 나갈 계획이다.

이를 통해 Wee클래스의 학교 상담 기능을 강화하는 동시에 학생들이 심리·정서적 어려움을 혼자 감당하지 않고 학교 안에서 필요한 도움을 받을 수 있는 환경을 조성한다는 구상이다.

조연주 해남교육지원청 교육장은 “이번 컨설팅이 학교의 상담 운영 현황과 어려움을 함께 살펴보고 각 학교의 특성에 맞는 실질적인 지원 방안을 찾아가는 기회가 되기를 바란다.”고 말했다.

이어 “앞으로도 학교 현장의 목소리를 바탕으로 Wee클래스가 학생들의 마음을 살피고 위기학생을 촘촘하게 지원할 수 있도록 지속적으로 컨설팅을 운영하겠다.”고 강조했다.

한편 해남교육지원청은 해남공업고등학교를 시작으로 오는 9월까지 관내 Wee클래스 신규 전문상담교사 배치교와 희망교를 대상으로 맞춤형 컨설팅을 이어갈 예정이다.

Customized counseling consultations are being conducted at schools across Haenam to help identify students experiencing psychological and emotional difficulties at an early stage and strengthen schools’ capacity to support students in crisis.
The Haenam Office of Education, headed by Superintendent Cho Yeon-joo, announced that it is operating the “2026 Wee Class Consulting Program” to promote school counseling and enhance support for at-risk students.
The consulting program runs from August through September and targets schools where professional counselors have been newly assigned to Wee Classes, as well as other schools that have requested consultation.
Rather than applying a uniform counseling program to every school, the initiative examines each school’s Wee Class operations, student characteristics, and challenges encountered in the field. Based on these findings, consultants and school staff work together to identify effective counseling strategies and crisis-management measures suited to each school’s circumstances.
The first consulting session was held at Haenam Technical High School on Aug. 25.
Haenam Technical High School is a vocational high school with 363 students in 29 classes. It operates a wide range of counseling and student-support programs, including individual and group counseling, psychological assessments, peer counseling, programs for students considering dropping out, emotional and behavioral screening, mentoring, and cooperation with community organizations.
In particular, the school is preparing for its transition to a Meister High School, which is expected to bring significant changes to students’ school lives, including curriculum restructuring, expanded field training, and increased dormitory residence.
Accordingly, a major focus of the consultation was determining how the Wee Class should adapt its role and counseling services to the changing school environment following the transition.
Discussions included redesigning counseling programs in line with curriculum changes, establishing appropriate operational strategies, and strengthening cooperation within the school to respond effectively to psychological and emotional difficulties or crisis situations that may arise during field training.
Participants also explored counseling measures tailored to the characteristics of a vocational high school, including remote counseling for students who may have difficulty visiting the counseling office because of off-campus field training or early employment, as well as stronger cooperation with relevant community agencies.
Through the consulting program, the Haenam Office of Education’s Wee Center plans to go beyond simply reviewing Wee Class operations. It will closely examine the challenges and needs of individual schools and work with them to develop counseling and crisis-support systems suited to their specific circumstances.
The office also plans to strengthen a coordinated support network involving professional counselors, homeroom teachers, school administrators, parents and guardians, and local professional agencies so that warning signs among at-risk students can be identified as early as possible.
Through these efforts, the education office aims to strengthen the counseling function of Wee Classes and create a school environment in which students do not have to cope with psychological or emotional difficulties alone and can receive appropriate support within their schools.
Superintendent Cho Yeon-joo said, “I hope this consulting program will provide an opportunity to examine each school’s current counseling operations and challenges together and identify practical support measures tailored to the characteristics of each school.”
“We will continue to provide consulting based on the voices and needs of schools so that Wee Classes can closely care for students’ emotional well-being and provide comprehensive support for students in crisis,” Cho added.
Meanwhile, following the first session at Haenam Technical High School, the Haenam Office of Education will continue providing customized consulting through September to schools with newly assigned professional Wee Class counselors and other schools wishing to participate.
