“추석 귀성길 바닷길 안전부터 챙긴다”…완도해경, 여객선 22척 합동점검

추석 연휴를 앞두고 고향을 찾는 귀성객과 섬 관광객들의 여객선 이용이 증가할 것으로 예상되면서 완도해경이 바닷길 안전 확보를 위한 대대적인 합동점검에 나섰다.

완도해양경찰서(서장 김태환)는 9월 1일부터 10일간 관내 연안여객선 22척을 대상으로 관계기관 합동 안전점검을 실시한다고 밝혔다.

이번 점검에는 완도해경을 비롯해 목포지방해양수산청, 한국해양교통안전공단(KOMSA), 완도운항관리센터 등 관계기관이 참여한다.

특히 추석 연휴 기간 귀성객과 관광객이 몰릴 것에 대비해 여객선의 안전관리 상태를 사전에 확인하고 사고 위험요인을 제거하는 데 중점을 두고 있다.

완도해경은 점검 첫날인 1일 완도운항관리센터에서 완도항과 청산도를 오가는 여객선의 운항계획을 확인하고 추석 연휴 안전관리 대책과 관계기관 간 협력사항 등을 논의했다.

이어 실제 여객선에 승선해 인명구조·소화장비의 비치 및 관리 상태를 비롯해 출항 전 차량 고박 상태, 선내 안전시설 관리 실태, 비상상황 발생 시 대응체계 등을 집중적으로 점검했다.

특히 차량을 싣고 운항하는 여객선의 경우 항해 중 차량이 움직이지 않도록 고정하는 고박 상태가 안전운항과 직결되는 만큼 출항 전 관리 실태를 꼼꼼하게 확인했다.

구명조끼와 구명설비, 소화장비 등 비상상황에서 승객의 생명과 직결되는 안전장비가 정상적으로 사용할 수 있는 상태인지도 살폈다.
완도해경은 여객선 선장과 선사 관계자들에게 출항 전 각종 장비점검을 철저히 하고 운항수칙을 준수해 줄 것을 당부했다.

또 해상에서 긴급상황이 발생할 경우 해경과 해양수산청, 운항관리센터 등 관계기관이 신속하게 정보를 공유하고 대응할 수 있도록 협력체계도 강화하기로 했다.

김태환 완도해양경찰서장은 “추석 연휴 동안 국민들이 안심하고 여객선을 이용할 수 있도록 관계기관과 함께 현장 중심의 안전관리를 강화하겠다.”고 말했다.

이어 “사소한 위험요인도 놓치지 않도록 출항 전 점검과 안전수칙 준수에 최선을 다해달라”고 당부했다.

완도해경은 추석 연휴 전까지 관내 연안여객선 22척에 대한 합동점검을 이어가며 귀성객과 관광객이 안전하게 섬과 육지를 오갈 수 있도록 해상교통 안전관리를 강화할 방침이다.

Ahead of the Chuseok holiday, when the number of travelers returning home and tourists visiting the islands is expected to increase, the Wando Coast Guard has launched a comprehensive joint safety inspection campaign to ensure safe ferry travel.
The Wando Coast Guard Station, headed by Chief Kim Tae-hwan, announced that it will conduct joint safety inspections of 22 coastal passenger ferries in its jurisdiction for 10 days beginning Sept. 1.
The inspections are being carried out jointly by the Wando Coast Guard, the Mokpo Regional Office of Oceans and Fisheries, the Korea Maritime Transportation Safety Authority (KOMSA), and the Wando Vessel Traffic Management Center.
The inspections are focused on identifying and eliminating potential accident risks in advance by checking the overall safety management of passenger ferries ahead of the Chuseok holiday, when the number of passengers is expected to rise significantly.
On Sept. 1, the first day of the inspections, officials met at the Wando Vessel Traffic Management Center to review operational plans for passenger ferries traveling between Wando Port and Cheongsando Island. They also discussed safety management measures for the Chuseok holiday and ways to strengthen cooperation among relevant agencies.
Officials then boarded passenger ferries to conduct on-site inspections focusing on the condition and management of lifesaving and firefighting equipment, the securing of vehicles before departure, onboard safety facilities, and emergency response systems.
For ferries carrying vehicles, inspectors paid particular attention to vehicle securing procedures before departure, as proper securing is essential to prevent vehicles from shifting while the vessel is underway and is directly related to safe navigation.
Inspectors also checked life jackets, lifesaving appliances, firefighting equipment, and other emergency safety devices to ensure that they are properly maintained and ready for immediate use in an emergency.
The Wando Coast Guard urged ferry captains and shipping company officials to thoroughly inspect equipment before departure and strictly comply with navigation and safety regulations.
The Coast Guard also plans to strengthen its cooperative response system so that the Coast Guard, maritime authorities, vessel traffic management officials, and other relevant agencies can quickly share information and respond effectively in the event of an emergency at sea.
“We will strengthen field-oriented safety management together with relevant agencies so that people can travel by passenger ferry with confidence during the Chuseok holiday,” Wando Coast Guard Chief Kim Tae-hwan said.
He added, “We ask everyone involved to thoroughly carry out pre-departure inspections and comply with safety regulations so that even the smallest potential risk is not overlooked.”
The Wando Coast Guard will continue joint inspections of all 22 coastal passenger ferries in its jurisdiction ahead of the Chuseok holiday and strengthen maritime transportation safety management to ensure that travelers and tourists can move safely between the mainland and the islands.
