“AI·우주·첨단농업까지”… 전남, 캐나다와 미래산업 동맹 시동

전라남도가 인공지능(AI), 우주산업, 첨단농업 등 미래 전략 산업 분야에서 캐나다와 협력 확대에 나섰다.

전남도는 4일 도청 접견실에서 김영록 전라남도지사가 필립 라포르튠(Philippe Lafortune) 주한 캐나다 대사를 접견하고, 양 지역의 미래 신성장 동력 확보를 위한 실질적인 교류 협력 방안을 논의했다고 밝혔다.

이번 면담은 주한 캐나다 대사관의 제안으로 성사됐으며, 지난해 8월 부임한 라포르튠 대사의 첫 전남 공식 방문이다.
대사 일행은 면담에 앞서 전남의 핵심 산업 현장인 고흥 나로우주센터와 해남 솔라시도 기업도시를 방문해 우주·에너지·AI 산업 기반을 직접 확인했다.

전남도는 이 자리에서 글로벌 산업 패러다임 변화에 대응하기 위한 핵심 전략으로 AI 산업 활성화, 우주발사체 산업 클러스터 조성, 첨단 농업기술 교류 등 미래 산업 전반의 협력 가능성을 제시했다.

특히 전남이 추진 중인 재생에너지 기반 산업 생태계와 우주·항공 산업 인프라를 소개하며, 캐나다의 첨단 기술력과 결합할 경우 상호 보완적인 글로벌 협력 모델이 가능하다는 점을 강조했다.

필립 라포르튠 대사는 “전남의 주요 산업 현장을 직접 확인하면서 캐나다와 전남 간 협력 잠재력을 실감했다”며 “이번 만남이 양 지역의 경제와 첨단 산업을 연결하는 중요한 출발점이 되길 기대한다.”고 말했다.

전남도 관계자는 “이번 대사 방문을 계기로 캐나다와의 미래 산업 협력이 더욱 구체화될 것으로 기대한다.”며 “글로벌 네트워크를 지속 확대해 지역경제를 견인할 신성장 동력 발굴에 적극 나서겠다.”고 밝혔다.

이번 방문은 전남이 추진 중인 AI·에너지·우주 산업 중심의 미래 산업 전략이 국제 협력 단계로 확대되고 있다는 신호라는 점에서 의미가 크다는 평가다.

특히 해남 솔라시도 AI·에너지 산업 거점과 고흥 우주발사체 산업 클러스터가 글로벌 협력의 새로운 거점으로 주목받고 있다.

Jeollanam-do Province has begun expanding cooperation with Canada in future strategic industries including artificial intelligence (AI), the space industry, and advanced agriculture.
The provincial government announced that Governor Kim Young-rok met with Canadian Ambassador to Korea Philippe Lafortune at the provincial office reception room on March 4 to discuss practical cooperation measures aimed at securing new growth engines for both regions.
The meeting was arranged at the suggestion of the Canadian Embassy in Korea and marked Ambassador Lafortune’s first official visit to Jeonnam since taking office in August last year.
Prior to the meeting, the ambassadorial delegation visited key industrial sites in the province, including the Naro Space Center in Goheung and the Solaseado Enterprise City in Haenam, to observe the region’s space, energy, and AI industrial infrastructure.
During the talks, Jeonnam presented several strategic initiatives to respond to changes in the global industrial landscape, including the promotion of AI industries, the development of a space launch vehicle industry cluster, and exchanges in advanced agricultural technologies.
The province also introduced its renewable energy-based industrial ecosystem and aerospace infrastructure, emphasizing that cooperation with Canada’s advanced technological capabilities could create a mutually complementary global partnership model.
Ambassador Lafortune said,
“After seeing Jeonnam’s major industrial sites firsthand, I could clearly sense the strong potential for cooperation between Canada and Jeonnam. I hope this meeting will serve as an important starting point connecting the economies and high-tech industries of our two regions.”
A Jeonnam provincial official stated,
“We expect that this visit by the ambassador will further materialize cooperation with Canada in future industries. We will continue expanding our global network to discover new growth engines that can drive the regional economy.”
The visit is widely regarded as a meaningful sign that Jeonnam’s strategy centered on AI, energy, and space industries is expanding into the stage of international cooperation.
In particular, the Solaseado AI-energy industrial hub in Haenam and the space launch vehicle industry cluster in Goheung are gaining attention as new bases for global collaboration.
