“폭염 속 늘어진 광케이블, 그냥 지나칠 수 없었다”…정영훈 대표에 감사장

도로 위로 늘어진 광케이블 때문에 안전사고와 교통사고가 발생할 수 있는 긴박한 상황에서 자신의 사다리차를 이용해 위험을 해소한 주민이 경찰의 감사장을 받았다.

해남경찰서(서장 박미영) 읍내지구대(대장 박권홍)는 112신고 현장에서 자발적으로 사고 예방에 도움을 준 해남읍 ‘진 정보통신’ 정영훈 대표(49)에게 감사장을 수여했다고 19일 밝혔다.

정 대표는 지난 4일 오후 4시께 해남교차로를 지나던 중 교각 상단에 연결된 광케이블이 끊어져 도로 쪽으로 늘어진 상황을 목격했다.
해당 광케이블은 익산지방국토관리청이 설치·관리하는 시설물로, 당시 도로를 통행하는 차량과 접촉할 우려가 있어 신속한 안전조치가 필요한 상황이었다.

현장에 출동한 경찰관들은 도로 중앙에서 늘어진 광케이블을 직접 들어 올린 채 차량 통행을 유도하고 있었다.

이를 본 정 대표는 그냥 지나치지 않고 자신이 운행하던 사다리차를 현장에 투입했다. 정 대표는 사다리차를 이용해 광케이블을 도로 위쪽으로 들어 올린 뒤 신호등 기둥에 묶어 고정하는 등 약 1시간 동안 안전조치 작업을 벌였다.

경찰과 정 대표의 공동 대응으로 도로를 지나는 차량들은 위험 구간을 안전하게 통과할 수 있었으며, 광케이블로 인한 추가 사고도 예방할 수 있었다.

현장에 출동했던 읍내지구대 최성호 팀장은 “경찰관들이 도로 중앙에서 통행 차량의 안전을 유도하던 중 정 대표가 자발적으로 사다리차를 이용해 광케이블을 정리해 줬다”며 “무더운 날씨에도 위험을 무릅쓰고 도움을 준 데 대해 진심으로 감사드린다.”고 말했다.

정영훈 대표는 “폭염 속에서 경찰관들이 도로에 늘어진 광케이블을 직접 들고 차량들이 지나갈 수 있도록 교통정리를 하는 모습을 보고 그냥 지나칠 수 없었다.”며 “주민으로서 마땅히 해야 할 일을 했을 뿐인데 감사장을 받게 돼 큰 보람을 느낀다.”고 말했다.

이어 “앞으로도 지역에 도움이 필요한 일이 생기면 적극적으로 나서겠다.”고 덧붙였다.

박미영 해남경찰서장은 “신속하고 자발적인 도움으로 안전사고와 교통사고를 예방해 준 정영훈 대표에게 경찰을 대표해 감사드린다.”며 “지역사회의 안전과 발전을 위해 봉사하는 주민들이 더욱 많아지기를 기대한다.”고 밝혔다.

A local resident has received a police certificate of appreciation after using his ladder truck to remove a serious hazard posed by a fiber-optic cable dangling over a road.
The Haenam Police Station’s Eupnae District Police Unit, headed by Park Gwon-hong, said on August 19 that it presented the certificate to Jeong Yeong-hun, 49, the owner of Jin Information and Communications in Haenam-eup, for voluntarily assisting officers at the scene of a 112 emergency call and helping prevent potential safety and traffic accidents.
At around 4 p.m. on August 4, Jeong was passing through Haenam Intersection when he noticed that a fiber-optic cable connected to the upper section of an overpass had snapped and was hanging over the roadway.
The cable was part of infrastructure installed and managed by the Iksan Regional Construction and Management Administration. Because passing vehicles were at risk of striking it, immediate safety measures were required.
Police officers dispatched to the scene were standing in the middle of the road, physically holding the cable above traffic while directing vehicles safely through the intersection.
After witnessing the situation, Jeong stopped and volunteered the use of the ladder truck he was driving. He raised the cable above the roadway and secured it to a traffic-light pole, working for approximately an hour to eliminate the danger.
The joint response by Jeong and the police allowed vehicles to pass safely through the hazardous area and helped prevent further accidents involving the damaged cable.
Choi Seong-ho, a team leader at the Eupnae District Police Unit who responded to the scene, said, “While officers were directing traffic in the middle of the road, Mr. Jeong voluntarily used his ladder truck to secure the fiber-optic cable. We are deeply grateful that he stepped forward despite the intense heat and the risks involved.”
Jeong said, “I saw the police officers standing in the road under the scorching sun, holding up the dangling cable with their own hands so vehicles could pass safely. I simply could not ignore the situation and drive away.”
“I only did what a resident should do, but receiving this certificate of appreciation makes me feel deeply rewarded,” he added. “If my community needs help again, I will readily step forward.”
Haenam Police Chief Park Mi-young said, “On behalf of the police, I sincerely thank Mr. Jeong for his swift and voluntary assistance, which helped prevent both safety and traffic accidents.”
“We hope that more residents will follow his example by serving their community and contributing to its safety and development,” she added.
