우즈베키스탄서 봉사·공공외교 펼칠 ‘광주글로벌원정대’ 모집

전남광주통합특별시가 우즈베키스탄 사마르칸트에서 봉사활동과 문화교류를 통해 공공외교를 펼칠 ‘광주글로벌원정대’ 참가자를 모집한다.

전남광주통합특별시는 오는 8월 23일까지 해외 봉사활동 결합형 공공외교 사업인 광주글로벌원정대 참가 신청을 받는다고 밝혔다.

올해로 3회째를 맞은 광주글로벌원정대는 시민들이 해외 현장에서 문화교류와 봉사활동에 참여하며 포용도시 광주의 가치와 매력을 알리는 시민참여형 국제교류 프로그램이다. 사업은 사단법인 광주국제교류센터가 주관한다.

모집 분야는 ▲한국문화 공연 ▲한국어교육 ▲지역홍보 ▲운영지원 ▲통역 등 모두 5개 분야다. 서류심사와 면접을 거쳐 총 26명을 선발할 예정이다.

각 모집 분야에 필요한 역량과 봉사정신을 갖춘 전남광주특별시 거주 성인이면 누구나 지원할 수 있다. 참가 신청은 광주국제교류센터 누리집을 통해 하면 된다.

참가비는 1인당 60만 원으로 편도 항공료에 해당한다. 참가자 자부담을 제외한 나머지 편도 항공료와 현지 숙식비, 문화탐방 비용 등은 지원되며, 활동을 마친 참가자에게는 참가활동증명서도 발급된다.

최종 선발된 원정대는 오는 10월 16일부터 22일까지 5박 7일 일정으로 전남광주통합특별시의 우호협력도시인 우즈베키스탄 사마르칸트시에 파견된다.

원정대는 현지 대표 행사인 ‘사마르칸트시의 날’에 참가해 전남광주통합특별시 홍보부스를 운영한다. 홍보영상 상영과 한국 음식 체험을 비롯해 K-팝과 국악, 전통무용 공연 등을 선보이며 현지 시민들과 문화교류에 나설 예정이다.

사마르칸트시 고려문화협회에는 장구와 북 등 전통악기 12점을 전달한다. 현지 대학교와 복지시설을 방문해 한국어 수업과 문화교류 프로그램을 진행하고 주변 환경정비 등 봉사활동도 펼친다.

최종 합격자는 8월 31일 광주국제교류센터 누리집을 통해 발표한다. 선발된 참가자는 9월 중 두 차례 진행되는 사전교육에 참여해 우즈베키스탄과 사마르칸트의 역사·문화를 배우고 팀별 활동계획을 구체화하게 된다.

장안숙 전남광주통합특별시 국제교류담당관은 “광주글로벌원정대는 시민들이 해외 현장에서 봉사활동과 공공외교를 직접 실천하는 사업”이라며 “국제교류와 봉사활동에 관심 있는 시민들의 많은 참여를 기대한다”고 말했다.

Jeonnam-Gwangju Special Metropolitan City is recruiting participants for the “Gwangju Global Expedition Team,” which will carry out volunteer work, cultural exchange and public diplomacy in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.
The city announced that applications will be accepted through Aug. 23 for the overseas public diplomacy initiative, which combines international volunteer service with citizen-led cultural engagement.
Now in its third year, the Gwangju Global Expedition Team is a civic participation program designed to promote Gwangju’s values as an inclusive city through cultural exchange and volunteer service overseas. The program is organized by the Gwangju International Center.
Participants will be recruited in five fields: Korean cultural performances, Korean-language education, regional promotion, operational support and interpretation. A total of 26 people will be selected through document screening and interviews.
Any adult resident of Jeonnam-Gwangju Special Metropolitan City who has relevant skills and a strong commitment to volunteer service may apply. Applications must be submitted through the Gwangju International Center’s website.
The participation fee is KRW 600,000, equivalent to the cost of one-way airfare. Apart from this personal contribution, the program will cover the remaining one-way airfare, local accommodation, meals, cultural tours and other related expenses. Participants will also receive an official certificate of participation upon completing the program.
Those selected will be dispatched to Samarkand, a friendship and cooperation city of Jeonnam-Gwangju Special Metropolitan City, for five nights and seven days from Oct. 16 to 22.
The team will participate in “Samarkand City Day,” one of the city’s major events, and operate a promotional booth for Jeonnam-Gwangju Special Metropolitan City. Activities will include screenings of promotional videos, Korean food experiences and performances featuring K-pop, gugak—traditional Korean music—and traditional Korean dance.
The team will also donate 12 traditional Korean musical instruments, including janggu hourglass drums and buk barrel drums, to the Korean Cultural Association of Samarkand.
Participants will visit local universities and welfare facilities to conduct Korean-language classes and cultural exchange programs. They will also take part in volunteer activities, including environmental cleanup work.
The final list of successful applicants will be announced on the Gwangju International Center’s website on Aug. 31. Selected participants will attend two preliminary training sessions in September to learn about the history and culture of Uzbekistan and Samarkand and to develop detailed team activity plans.
“The Gwangju Global Expedition Team enables citizens to practice volunteerism and public diplomacy directly in an international setting,” said Jang An-suk, director in charge of international exchange for Jeonnam-Gwangju Special Metropolitan City. “We look forward to strong participation from residents interested in international exchange and volunteer service.”

Jeonnam-Gwangju Special Metropolitan City signed a friendship and cooperation agreement with Samarkand in October 2023. Since then, the two cities have continued exchanges focused primarily on culture, including media art exhibitions and Gwangju-style cultural official development assistance programs.
