완도해경, 짙은 안개 속 해양사고 2건 신속 대응…인명피해 없어

완도해양경찰서가 연휴 기간 완도 해상에서 잇따라 발생한 낚시어선 기관 고장과 수상레저기구 추진기 손상 사고에 신속히 대응해 인명피해 없이 안전조치를 마쳤다.

완도해양경찰서(서장 김태환)는 지난 18일부터 19일까지 완도군 해상에서 발생한 해양사고 2건에 경비함정과 구조정을 투입해 탑승자들의 안전을 확보했다고 밝혔다.

지난 18일 오전 전남 완도군 황제도 동쪽 해상에서는 9.77톤급 낚시어선의 기관이 손상됐다는 신고가 접수됐다.
당시 사고 해역은 짙은 안개로 시정거리가 약 150m에 불과해 구조 여건이 좋지 않은 상황이었다.

완도해경은 신고를 접수한 즉시 경비함정과 구조정을 현장에 급파해 승객과 선원 등 13명의 건강 상태와 안전 여부를 확인했다.
이어 민간 예인선과 연계해 사고 선박이 안전하게 복귀할 수 있도록 조치했다.

다음 날인 19일 오전에는 완도군 불목리 앞 해상에서 레저활동을 하던 고무보트의 추진기가 손상돼 운항이 불가능하다는 신고가 접수됐다.
완도해경은 현장에 출동해 탑승자의 안전을 확인한 뒤 고무보트를 안전해역까지 예인했다. 이후 해당 보트는 자력으로 무사히 입항했다.
두 사고의 탑승자들은 모두 구명조끼를 착용하고 있었으며, 해경의 신속한 현장 대응으로 인명피해는 발생하지 않았다.

완도해경은 여름철 해상에서는 안개와 돌풍 등 기상이 갑작스럽게 변할 수 있어 출항 전 기관과 추진기 등 주요 장비의 상태를 반드시 점검해야 한다고 당부했다.

송규하 완도해경 경비구조과장은 “출항 전 기관과 추진기 등 주요 장비를 철저히 점검하고, 여름철에는 안개 등으로 해상 기상이 급변할 수 있는 만큼 기상정보를 확인해 무리한 운항을 자제해야 한다”고 말했다.

이어 “해상에서 이상이 발생하면 지체하지 말고 해로드 앱이나 해양경찰에 즉시 신고해 달라”고 당부했다.

The Wando Coast Guard responded swiftly to two maritime accidents involving a fishing boat engine failure and damage to a water leisure craft’s propulsion system during the holiday period, completing all safety measures without any casualties.
The Wando Coast Guard, headed by Chief Kim Tae-hwan, said it dispatched a patrol vessel and a rescue boat to two accidents that occurred in waters off Wando County between July 18 and 19 and secured the safety of everyone on board.
On the morning of July 18, a report was received that a 9.77-ton fishing boat had suffered engine damage in waters east of Hwangjedo Island in Wando County, South Jeolla Province.
At the time, visibility in the accident area was limited to approximately 150 meters due to dense fog, creating difficult rescue conditions.
Immediately after receiving the report, the Coast Guard dispatched a patrol vessel and a rescue boat to the scene and confirmed the health and safety of 13 passengers and crew members.
The Coast Guard then coordinated with a private towing vessel to ensure that the disabled fishing boat returned safely.
The following morning, on July 19, another report was received that a rubber boat engaged in recreational activities had become unable to operate after its propulsion system was damaged in waters off Bulmok-ri, Wando County.
The Wando Coast Guard arrived at the scene, confirmed the occupant’s safety and towed the rubber boat to safe waters. The boat was then able to return to port under its own power.
All those involved in the two accidents were wearing life jackets, and no casualties occurred due to the Coast Guard’s rapid on-site response.
The Wando Coast Guard urged boat operators to inspect engines, propulsion systems and other essential equipment before departure, as fog, strong winds and other maritime weather conditions can change rapidly during the summer.
Song Gyu-ha, head of the Wando Coast Guard’s Security and Rescue Division, said, “Operators must thoroughly inspect engines, propulsion systems and other major equipment before departure. Because maritime weather can change suddenly due to fog and other conditions during the summer, they should check weather information and refrain from sailing when conditions are unfavorable.”
He added, “Anyone who encounters an emergency or abnormal situation at sea should immediately report it through the Haeroad application or contact the Korea Coast Guard.”
