완도소방서가 도서지역 화재 대응의 ‘결정적 변수’인 초기 진압 능력을 대폭 끌어올렸다.

완도소방서(서장 이민석)는 지난 4일, 화재 등 각종 재난 발생 시 신속하고 안정적인 현장 대응을 위해 도서지역인 금당도에 신규 동력소방펌프를 배치하는 행사를 실시했다고 밝혔다.

이번에 교체된 장비는 2007년 식 노후 동력소방펌프를 2025년 식 최신 장비로 전면 교체한 것으로, 장비 노후화로 인한 현장 대응 한계를 해소하고 도서지역 화재 대응 능력을 실질적으로 강화하기 위해 추진됐다.

특히 섬 지역은 외부 소방력 지원에 물리적·시간적 제약이 큰 만큼, 상시 배치 장비의 성능이 주민 안전을 좌우한다는 판단이 반영됐다.

이번 장비 교체는 전라남도 소방본부와의 협력을 통해 도 예산을 확보하며 가능해졌다.
이를 통해 화재 초기 진압은 물론, 장시간 연속 대응 능력까지 한층 강화될 것으로 기대된다.

완도소방서는 그동안 도서지역 소방장비 전반의 노후 실태를 점검하고, 우선 교체가 시급한 장비부터 단계적으로 개선해 왔다.

장비 교체와 함께 완도소방서는 금당119지역대 소속 직원을 대상으로 신규 동력소방펌프 점검·운용 훈련과 시연회를 실시했다.

실제 재난 상황에서도 신속하고 효율적인 장비 운용이 가능하도록 현장 중심 교육을 병행했다.

이민석 서장은 “도서지역은 소방력 접근에 한계가 분명한 만큼, 현장에 배치된 장비의 성능이 곧 주민 안전과 직결된다.”며 “앞으로도 노후 소방장비를 중심으로 지속적인 교체를 추진하고, 도서지역 여건에 맞는 맞춤형 소방 안전 대책을 강화해 나가겠다.”고 밝혔다.

완도소방서는 이번 장비 교체를 계기로 도서지역 화재 대응 체계를 한 단계 끌어올리고, 섬 주민의 생명과 재산을 지키는 ‘현장 골든타임’ 확보에 총력을 기울인다는 방침이다.

Wando Fire Station Deploys Latest Power Fire Pump to Geumdangdo, Elevating Fire Response Capability in Island Areas
Wando Fire Station has significantly strengthened its initial fire suppression capacity—considered a decisive factor in disaster response for island regions.
According to Wando Fire Station (Chief Lee Min-seok), on the 4th it held an event to deploy a new power fire pump on Geumdangdo, an island area, to ensure rapid and stable on-site response in the event of fires and other disasters.
The newly deployed equipment represents a full replacement of an aging 2007-model power fire pump with a state-of-the-art 2025 model. The upgrade was 추진ed to overcome the limitations caused by equipment deterioration and to substantially enhance fire response capability in island regions.
In particular, given that island areas face significant physical and time constraints in receiving external firefighting support, the decision reflects the assessment that the performance of permanently stationed equipment directly determines residents’ safety.
This equipment replacement was made possible by securing provincial funding through cooperation with the Jeollanam-do Fire Headquarters. The upgrade is expected to further strengthen not only early-stage fire suppression but also the ability to sustain long-duration response operations.
Wando Fire Station has consistently inspected the condition of firefighting equipment in island areas and has been 추진ing step-by-step improvements, prioritizing equipment in urgent need of replacement.
Alongside the equipment upgrade, Wando Fire Station conducted inspection, operation training, and a demonstration of the new power fire pump for personnel of the Geumdang 119 Local Team. Practical, field-oriented training was provided to ensure swift and efficient operation during real disaster situations.
Chief Lee Min-seok stated, “In island areas, where access by firefighting forces is inherently limited, the performance of equipment deployed on site is directly linked to residents’ safety,” adding, “We will continue to replace aging firefighting equipment and strengthen customized fire safety measures tailored to the conditions of island regions.”
With this latest upgrade, Wando Fire Station plans to take island-area fire response systems to the next level and devote full efforts to securing the ‘on-site golden time’ that protects the lives and property of island residents.
