“야간·저수심 악조건 속 생명 지켜냈다”

전남 해남군 해상에서 야간작업 중 바다에 추락한 50대 남성이 해양경찰과 해양재난구조대의 신속한 공조로 무사히 구조됐다.

완도해양경찰서(서장 김태환)는 지난 29일 오후 8시 33분경, 해남군 송지면 엄남포항 인근 저수심 해역에서 해상으로 추락한 A씨(남·50대)를 안전하게 구조했다고 밝혔다.

완도해경에 따르면 A씨는 같은 날 오후 5시 10분경 양식장 작업을 위해 출항했으며, 작업을 마친 뒤 선박을 옮겨 타는 과정에서 해상으로 추락한 것으로 파악됐다.

A씨는 추락 직후 선박에 매달린 상태에서 직접 112에 구조 요청을 했고, 신고를 접수한 완도해경은 즉시 경비함정과 파출소 연안 구조정, 완도구조대를 현장으로 급파했다.

사고 해역은 수심이 낮고 야간 시야 확보가 어려운 조건으로 구조 활동에 상당한 제약이 있었으나, 해양경찰과 인근 해양재난구조대의 합동 대응을 통해 신속하고 체계적인 구조가 이뤄졌다.

구조된 A씨는 구조 당시 저체온증 증상을 호소했으나, 다행히 생명에는 지장이 없는 상태로 확인됐다.

김태환 완도해양경찰서장은 “저수심 해역과 야간이라는 악조건 속에서도 해양경찰과 해양재난구조대의 유기적인 협력체계가 신속한 인명 구조로 이어진 사례”라며, “해상 작업 시에는 반드시 구명조끼를 착용하고, 특히 1인 조업이나 야간작업 시에는 조업 위치와 입항 예정 시간 등을 가족이나 지인에게 미리 알리는 것만으로도 사고 발생 시 구조 시간을 크게 단축할 수 있다”고 강조했다.

완도해경은 앞으로도 야간·단독 해상 작업자에 대한 안전 수칙 홍보와 현장 대응 역량 강화를 통해 해상 안전사고 예방에 총력을 기울일 방침이다.

**“Life Saved Amid Nighttime, Shallow-Water Conditions”
Wando Coast Guard Rescues Man in His 50s After Falling into Sea Near Eomnam Port, Haenam**
A man in his 50s who fell into the sea while working at night off the coast of Haenam County, South Jeolla Province, was safely rescued thanks to the swift joint response of the Korea Coast Guard and a maritime disaster rescue team.
The Wando Coast Guard (Chief Kim Tae-hwan) announced that at approximately 8:33 p.m. on the 29th, they successfully rescued Mr. A (male, in his 50s) after he fell into the sea in a shallow-water area near Eomnam Port, Songji-myeon, Haenam County.
According to the Coast Guard, Mr. A had departed at around 5:10 p.m. the same day to carry out aquaculture work. After completing his tasks, he fell into the water while transferring between vessels.
Immediately after the fall, Mr. A managed to cling to the vessel and personally placed an emergency call to 112. Upon receiving the report, the Wando Coast Guard promptly dispatched a patrol vessel, a coastal rescue boat from the local station, and the Wando rescue team to the scene.
The accident site was a shallow-water area with severely limited visibility due to nighttime conditions, posing significant challenges for rescue operations. Nevertheless, effective coordination between the Coast Guard and a nearby maritime disaster rescue team enabled a rapid and systematic rescue despite the difficult environment.
Mr. A complained of symptoms of hypothermia at the time of rescue, but was later confirmed to be in stable condition with no serious health issues.
Chief Kim Tae-hwan of the Wando Coast Guard stated,
“This case demonstrates how rapid life-saving efforts were made possible through close cooperation between the Coast Guard and maritime disaster rescue teams, even under adverse conditions such as shallow waters and nighttime operations.”
He added, “When working at sea, it is essential to wear a life jacket at all times. Especially during solo operations or nighttime work, simply informing family members or acquaintances in advance of your work location and expected return time can significantly reduce rescue response time in the event of an accident.”
The Wando Coast Guard emphasized that it will continue to strengthen safety awareness campaigns for nighttime and solo maritime workers, while enhancing on-site response capabilities to prevent maritime accidents.
