전남광주통합특별시는 초대 산업경제부시장에 강명수 전 한국표준협회장을 임명했다고 밝혔다.

강 신임 부시장은 나주 출신으로 광주제일고와 서울대학교 경제학과를 졸업했다. 서울대에서 행정학 석사, 미국 미주리대에서 경제학 박사 학위를 받았다.

제35회 행정고시로 공직에 입문해 지식경제부 바이오헬스과장, 지역발전위원회 정책총괄국장, 산업통상자원부 통상협력국장·대변인, 무역위원회 상임위원 등을 지냈다. 공직을 떠난 뒤에는 한국표준협회 회장과 삼일회계법인 글로벌통상솔루션센터장을 역임했다.

통합특별시는 강 부시장이 연구개발과 우주·첨단산업 육성, 투자유치, 지역경제 활성화, 일자리 확대, 산림산업 발전 등 산업경제 분야의 현안을 맡게 된다고 설명했다.

강 부시장은 “전남광주통합특별시 초대 산업경제부시장이라는 막중한 책임을 맡게 돼 매우 뜻깊게 생각한다.”며 “지역의 산업 기반을 다지고 기업이 성장하는 환경을 조성해 통합특별시의 새로운 미래 성장동력을 만드는 데 최선을 다하겠다.”고 말했다.

South Jeolla–Gwangju Special City announced that it has appointed Kang Myung-soo, former chairman of the Korean Standards Association, as its first vice mayor for industry and economy.
Born in Naju, Kang graduated from Gwangju Jeil High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in economics and a master’s degree in public administration from Seoul National University. He also holds a doctorate in economics from the University of Missouri in the United States.
Kang entered public service after passing the 35th Higher Civil Service Examination. He served as head of the Biohealth Division at the Ministry of Knowledge Economy, director general for policy coordination at the Presidential Committee on Regional Development, and director general for trade cooperation and spokesperson at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. He also served as a standing commissioner of the Korea Trade Commission.
After leaving public service, Kang served as chairman of the Korean Standards Association and head of the Global Trade Solutions Center at Samil PwC.
The special city said Kang will oversee economic and industrial priorities, including research and development, the space and advanced technology sectors, investment attraction, job creation and forestry industry development.
“I feel deeply honored to take on the significant responsibility of serving as South Jeolla–Gwangju Special City’s first vice mayor for industry and economy,” Kang said. “I will do my utmost to strengthen the region’s industrial base, create an environment where businesses can grow, and develop new drivers of growth for the special city.”
