완도소방서(서장 이민석)가 겨울철 화재 위험 증가에 대응해 주거취약시설을 직접 찾아가는 현장 행정지도를 실시하며, 도서지역 화재안전 사각지대 해소에 나섰다.

완도소방서는 지난 2월 11일 난방기기 사용 증가로 인한 계절성 화재를 사전에 차단하기 위해 관서장이 직접 주거취약시설을 방문, 주택 내부 화재취약요소를 집중 점검하고 맞춤형 화재 예방 활동을 전개했다고 밝혔다.

이번 현장 지도는 단순 점검을 넘어, 도서지역 특성상 초기 대응이 지연될 수 있는 구조적 한계를 극복하기 위한 ‘선제적 예방 중심’ 안전 강화 대책의 일환으로 추진됐다.

이날 현장에는 소방서장을 비롯한 소방공무원 5명과 의용소방대원 5명 등 총 10명이 참여했다.

이들은 노후 전기배선 상태, 문어발식 콘센트 사용 여부, 난방기기 안전관리 실태, 가스시설 이상 유무 등을 꼼꼼히 점검하며 잠재적 화재 위험 요인을 사전에 제거했다.

특히 점검과 함께 주민 대상 소방안전교육도 병행해, 화재 예방 수칙과 초기 진화 요령, 119 신고 요령 등 실생활에 필요한 대응 방법을 상세히 안내했다. 형식적 방문이 아닌 ‘생활 밀착형 소방 서비스’로 체감 안전도를 높였다는 평가다.

이민석 완도소방서장은 “겨울철 화재는 작은 부주의가 대형 인명·재산 피해로 이어질 수 있다”며 “현장 중심의 예방 활동을 강화해 화재 취약계층의 안전 사각지대를 해소하고, 군민 모두가 안심하고 겨울을 보낼 수 있도록 총력을 다하겠다.”고 강조했다.

한편 완도소방서는 계절별 화재 발생 특성을 분석해 선제적 예방 활동과 현장 행정지도를 지속 확대하고, 도서지역 맞춤형 안전관리 체계를 강화해 나갈 방침이다.

Wando Fire Station Visits Vulnerable Homes to Eliminate Fire Safety Blind Spots
완도소방서 (Chief Lee Min-seok) has launched on-site administrative inspections targeting fire-vulnerable residential facilities in response to the heightened risk of winter fires, aiming to eliminate fire safety blind spots in island communities.
On February 11, the Wando Fire Station carried out field inspections to proactively prevent seasonal fires caused by increased use of heating appliances. The fire chief personally visited vulnerable households, closely examining potential fire hazards inside homes and implementing customized fire prevention measures.
This initiative goes beyond routine inspections. It is part of a proactive, prevention-centered safety reinforcement strategy designed to overcome the structural limitations of island regions, where initial emergency response may be delayed due to geographical constraints.
A total of 10 personnel participated in the operation, including the fire chief, five firefighters, and five volunteer firefighters.
The team carefully inspected aging electrical wiring, overloaded multi-plug outlets, heating appliance safety conditions, and gas facility status to eliminate potential fire risks in advance.
In addition to inspections, practical fire safety education was provided to residents. This included guidance on fire prevention rules, initial fire suppression methods, and proper procedures for reporting emergencies to 119. The effort was evaluated as a “community-centered fire service” that enhances residents’ sense of safety rather than a mere formal visit.
Chief Lee Min-seok stated, “Winter fires can escalate from small negligence into major human and property losses. We will continue strengthening on-site preventive activities to eliminate safety blind spots for vulnerable groups and ensure that all residents can spend a safe winter.”
Meanwhile, the Wando Fire Station plans to continue expanding proactive prevention activities and on-site administrative guidance tailored to seasonal fire risks, further strengthening customized safety management systems for island regions.
