대한민국 수산업의 중심축이 다시 한 번 전라남도임이 확인됐다.
전라남도는 국가통계포털(KOSIS) 자료를 분석한 결과 2025년 전남 수산물 생산량이 213만 톤, 생산액 3조 6천219억 원을 기록해 전국 생산량의 60%, 생산액의 40%를 차지하며 전국 1위를 유지했다고 밝혔다.
전남의 수산물 생산량은 전년 대비 14.0% 증가, 생산액은 2.2% 증가했다.
이는 김·미역 등 해조류 양식 작황 호조, 고수온기 폐사율 감소 등 양식 환경 개선과 함께 넙치 가격 상승, 살오징어·병어 어획량 증가 등이 복합적으로 작용한 결과로 분석된다.

■ 양식어업 2조 2천억… 전남 수산업 생산의 핵심
어업별 생산 실적을 보면 전남 수산업은 양식 중심 구조가 더욱 뚜렷해졌다.
양식어업 2조 2천835억 원 (196만 240톤), 어선어업 1조 68억 원 (15만 917톤), 내수면어업 3천316억 원 (1만 7천40톤), 특히 양식어업 생산액은 전년보다 125억 원 증가하며 전남 수산업을 견인했다.
반면 내수면어업은 뱀장어 생산량 증가에도 불구하고 산지가격 하락 영향으로 생산액이 감소했다.
뱀장어 산지가격은 2023년 3만 2,371원/kg, 2024년 3만 2,367원/kg, 2025년 2만 5,100원/kg으로 크게 하락했다.

■ 어류·패류·갑각류 생산액 증가
품목별 생산 실적을 보면 대부분 품목에서 증가세가 나타났다.
어류 1조 3천928억 원 (13만 9천359톤), 패류 6천477억 원 (12만 2천769톤), 해조류 1조 1천425억 원 (182만 8천519톤), 갑각류 2천327억 원 (2만 5천194톤), 기타 수산물 : 2천62억 원 (1만 2천356톤).
해조류는 생산량이 크게 늘었지만 가격 하락 영향으로 생산액은 감소한 것으로 나타났다.

■ K-푸드 대표 ‘김’ 생산 급증… 가격은 하락
특히 세계 시장에서 인기를 끌고 있는 K-푸드 대표 수산물 ‘김’은 작황 호조로 생산량이 크게 늘었다.
하지만 출하 물량 증가로 산지가격이 하락하면서 생산액은 감소했다.
김 생산액 8천420억 원, 생산량 55만 5천283톤, 물김 위판가격은 2023년 120kg당 136천 원, 2024년 234천 원, 2025년 187천 원으로 하락세를 보였다.

■ “전남이 대한민국 수산업 중심”
박영채 전남도 해양수산국장은 “전남이 수산물 생산 전국 1위를 유지할 수 있었던 것은 어업인의 땀과 노력 덕분”이라며 “수산물 생산 통계를 정책 수립의 기초자료로 활용해 전남 수산업 경쟁력을 더욱 강화하겠다.”고 말했다.

■ 대한민국 수산업 판도 바꾸는 전남 바다
전남은 김·미역·전복·새우·넙치 등 다양한 수산물 생산 기반을 갖춘 대한민국 최대 수산 생산지다.
특히 완도·해남·고흥·신안 등 서남해안 양식 산업이 빠르게 성장하면서 K-수산 수출 전진기지로도 자리 잡고 있다.

전문가들은 앞으로 스마트 양식, 해상풍력과 연계한 해양산업, 수산 가공 산업 확대가 이뤄질 경우 전남 수산업의 글로벌 경쟁력이 더욱 높아질 것으로 전망하고 있다.

“60% of Korea’s Seafood Comes from Jeonnam”

Jeollanam-do has once again confirmed its position as the center of South Korea’s fisheries industry.
According to an analysis of data from the Korean Statistical Information Service (KOSIS), Jeonnam produced 2.13 million tons of seafood in 2025, with a total production value of 3.6219 trillion won, accounting for 60% of the nation’s total seafood production (3.55 million tons) and 40% of the total production value (9.017 trillion won), maintaining its position as the No.1 seafood-producing region in Korea.
Compared with the previous year, seafood production in Jeonnam increased by 14.0%, while production value rose by 2.2%.
This growth is attributed to favorable conditions in aquaculture, including strong harvests of seaweed such as laver (gim) and sea mustard, reduced mortality rates during high-temperature seasons, and increased catches of species such as olive flounder, squid, and butterfish, along with higher farm-gate prices for some fish species.
Aquaculture Leads with 2.28 Trillion Won
By sector, Jeonnam’s fisheries industry is increasingly centered on aquaculture.
Aquaculture: 2.2835 trillion won (1,960,240 tons)
Fishing vessels (capture fisheries): 1.0068 trillion won (150,917 tons)
Inland fisheries: 331.6 billion won (17,040 tons)
Aquaculture production value increased by 12.5 billion won from the previous year, continuing to drive the province’s fisheries industry.
In contrast, inland fisheries production value declined due to falling farm-gate prices for eel, despite an increase in production.
Farm-gate eel prices dropped significantly:
2023: 32,371 won/kg
2024: 32,367 won/kg
2025: 25,100 won/kg
Production Value Rises for Fish, Shellfish, and Crustaceans
By product category, most seafood items showed growth in production value.
Fish: 1.3928 trillion won (139,359 tons)
Shellfish: 647.7 billion won (122,769 tons)
Seaweed: 1.1425 trillion won (1,828,519 tons)
Crustaceans: 232.7 billion won (25,194 tons)
Other seafood: 206.2 billion won (12,356 tons)
Although seaweed production volume increased significantly, the overall production value declined due to falling prices.
K-Food Favorite “Gim” Production Surges but Prices Fall
The global K-food favorite laver (gim) recorded a sharp increase in production thanks to favorable growing conditions.
However, increased supply led to declining farm-gate prices, resulting in a decrease in overall production value.
Production value: 842 billion won
Production volume: 555,283 tons
The auction price for raw laver (per 120kg) was:
2023: 136,000 won
2024: 234,000 won
2025: 187,000 won
showing a downward trend.

Jeonnam Waters Reshaping Korea’s Fisheries Landscape
Jeonnam is Korea’s largest seafood-producing region, with strong production bases for laver, sea mustard, abalone, shrimp, and olive flounder.
In particular, aquaculture industries along the southwestern coast—including Wando, Haenam, Goheung, and Shinan—are growing rapidly, positioning the region as a major export hub for K-seafood.
Experts say that with the expansion of smart aquaculture, marine industries linked to offshore wind power, and seafood processing industries, Jeonnam’s fisheries sector is expected to become even more competitive in the global market.
