완도 안전의 현장에 새로운 이정표가 세워졌다.
완도소방서에 사상 처음으로 여성 119구조대장이 탄생했다.
완도소방서는 김성경 소방경이 1월 5일부터 119구조대장 임무를 공식 수행하고 있다고 밝혔다.

김성경 소방경은 1997년 8월 전남 3기 구급대원으로 소방에 첫발을 내디딘 이후 28년 동안 화재·구조·구급 전반을 두루 경험한 현장 베테랑이다.
특히 본부와 소방서 상황실에서 13년간 근무하며 위기 순간의 판단과 지휘 체계 운영에서 확고한 역량을 쌓아 왔다.
현장과 상황실을 모두 꿰뚫은 경험은 ‘즉각 판단·정확 지휘’라는 강점으로 이어진다.

지난 2년간 전남 최초의 여성 지휘팀장으로 활동하며 주요 출동 현장에서 지휘력을 증명해 온 점도 주목된다.
김 소방경의 이번 보임은 단순한 인사가 아니라, 현장을 아는 지휘관의 등장이자 조직에 희망을 더하는 선택이라는 평가를 받는다.

전문성 또한 두텁다. 1종 대형면허를 비롯해 응급구조사 1·2급, 소형선박조종사, 화재감식평가 기사·산업기사, 초경량비행장치조종자 자격까지 갖췄다. 육상·해상·항공을 아우르는 전문 자격은 섬 지역 완도의 특성을 반영한 다층 구조 대응의 토대가 된다.

김성경 소방경은 취임 포부로 ‘대원 안전 최우선’을 분명히 했다.
“구조 현장은 단 한 번의 판단과 작은 변수로도 대원의 안전이 위협받을 수 있다”며 “현장 안전수칙과 표준작전절차를 철저히 지키는 구조 활동으로 군민의 생명을 지키겠다.”고 밝혔다.
이는 지휘의 중심에 ‘사람’을 두겠다는 약속이기도 하다.

이민석 완도소방서장은 “김성경 소방경은 화재·구조·구급을 두루 거친 풍부한 현장 경험과 상황실 근무로 다져진 판단력이 강점”이라며 “섬 지역 특성을 반영한 구조 역량 강화로 군민이 체감하는 안전 수준을 한 단계 끌어올릴 것으로 기대한다.”고 말했다.

첫 여성 119구조대장의 출범은 기록을 넘어 메시지다.
경험과 전문성, 그리고 안전을 향한 책임감이 완도 현장에 희망으로 작동하고 있다. 완도의 안전은 지금, 더 단단해지고 있다.

The Beginning of Kim Sung-kyung, the First Female 119 Rescue Team Leader at Wando Fire Station**
A new milestone has been set on the front lines of safety in Wando.
For the first time in its history, Wando Fire Station has appointed a female 119 Rescue Team leader. The station announced that Fire Lieutenant Kim Sung-kyung officially began her duties as head of the 119 Rescue Team on January 5.
Fire Lt. Kim entered the fire service in August 1997 as part of the Jeonnam Province’s 3rd class of emergency medical technicians. Over the past 28 years, she has built a distinguished career as a field veteran, gaining extensive experience across firefighting, rescue, and emergency medical response.
In particular, her 13 years of service in provincial headquarters and fire station emergency situation rooms have strengthened her ability to make critical decisions and operate command systems under pressure. Her experience bridging both the field and the control room has become a defining strength—swift judgment and precise command.
Attention is also drawn to her leadership record over the past two years, during which she served as the first female command team leader in Jeonnam Province, demonstrating her command capabilities at major dispatch scenes. Her appointment is seen not as a routine personnel move, but as the emergence of a commander who truly understands the field—one that brings renewed hope to the organization.
Her professional credentials are equally notable. She holds a Class-1 large vehicle driver’s license, Level 1 and 2 Emergency Medical Technician certifications, a small vessel operator’s license, fire investigation and assessment engineer and industrial engineer certifications, and an ultralight aircraft pilot license. These qualifications—spanning land, sea, and air—provide a solid foundation for multi-layered rescue operations tailored to Wando’s island-based regional characteristics.
Upon assuming her new role, Fire Lt. Kim clearly emphasized the principle of “safety first for all crew members.”
“A rescue scene is one where even a single decision or a small variable can put responders at risk,” she said. “I will ensure that rescue operations strictly adhere to on-scene safety rules and standard operating procedures, so that we can protect the lives of our residents.” Her words reflect a commitment to placing people at the very center of command.
Wando Fire Chief Lee Min-seok commented, “Fire Lt. Kim’s greatest strengths lie in her extensive experience across firefighting, rescue, and emergency medical services, combined with the sound judgment she has developed through years of situation-room duty.” He added, “We expect her to significantly enhance rescue capabilities that reflect the unique characteristics of island regions and to raise the level of safety that residents can truly feel.”
The launch of Wando’s first female 119 Rescue Team leader is more than a historic record—it is a message.
