“상품권이나 물품을 대신 구매해 달라는 연락을 받았다면 돈을 보내기 전 상대방의 공식 연락처부터 다시 확인하세요.”

해남경찰서가 상품권 대리구매와 물품대금 대리입금 등을 유도하는 신종 전기통신금융사기 피해를 막기 위해 우체국과 손잡고 주민 생활 속으로 찾아가는 예방 홍보에 나섰다.

해남경찰서(서장 박미영) 황산파출소는 최근 발생하고 있는 대리구매 유도 사기를 비롯한 보이스피싱·스미싱 피해 예방을 위해 관내 우체국과 협업해 생활밀착형 홍보활동을 추진하고 있다고 23일 밝혔다.
이번 홍보는 주민들이 일상적으로 이용하는 우체국 택배 포장 과정에 범죄예방 메시지를 접목한 것이 특징이다.

황산파출소는 우체국 창구에 범죄예방 문구가 인쇄된 박스테이프를 비치해 주민들이 택배를 포장하면서 자연스럽게 신종 금융사기의 위험성을 인식할 수 있도록 했다.

박스테이프에는 “대리구매 유도는 사기의 시작, 공식 연락처인지 한번 더 확인은 필수!”라는 경고 문구와 경찰 로고를 넣었다. 빗금 형태의 경고 디자인을 적용해 주민들이 쉽게 알아볼 수 있도록 시인성도 높였다.

경찰이 특히 주의를 당부하는 것은 상품권 대리구매나 물품대금 대리입금 등을 요구하는 수법이다.

갑작스럽게 상품권이나 특정 물품을 대신 구매해 달라고 요청하거나 타인의 계좌로 돈을 보내달라는 연락을 받을 경우 상대방이 알려준 전화번호나 문자메시지만 믿지 말고, 해당 기관이나 업체의 공식 연락처를 직접 확인하는 등 추가 확인 절차를 거치는 것이 필요하다.

정주완 황산파출소장은 “최근 상품권 대리구매나 물품 대금 대리입금 등을 유도하는 피해가 지속적으로 발생함에 따라 주민들의 이용 빈도가 높은 우체국 택배를 활용한 생활밀착형 예방책을 마련했다”고 말했다.

이어 “앞으로도 주민들의 눈높이에 맞춘 다양한 범죄예방 홍보를 지속해 나가겠다.”고 밝혔다.

해남경찰서는 주민들이 일상생활에서 범죄예방 정보를 반복적으로 접할 수 있도록 지역사회와 협업한 홍보활동을 이어갈 방침이다.

“If you receive a request to purchase gift certificates or other goods on someone else’s behalf, verify the person or organization through an official contact number before sending any money.”
Haenam Police Station has teamed up with local post offices to launch a community-based campaign aimed at preventing emerging telecommunications financial scams involving requests to purchase gift certificates or make payments on behalf of others.
The Hwangsan Police Substation of Haenam Police Station, headed by Chief Park Mi-young, announced on Sept. 23 that it is working with local post offices to raise awareness of proxy purchase scams, voice phishing, smishing and other forms of telecommunications fraud.
The campaign is designed to incorporate crime-prevention messages into the everyday process of packing parcels at post offices frequently used by local residents.
The Hwangsan Police Substation has provided post office counters with specially designed packing tape printed with anti-fraud warnings, allowing residents to encounter crime-prevention messages naturally while preparing parcels for shipment.
The tape carries the message, “A request for a proxy purchase could be the beginning of a scam. Always double-check that you are using an official contact number!”
The police logo and a highly visible diagonal warning design have also been incorporated into the tape to make the message easier for residents to notice.
Police are particularly urging residents to remain cautious when they receive requests to purchase gift certificates or other products on someone else’s behalf, or to transfer money for goods.
When someone unexpectedly asks for gift certificates or specific products to be purchased, or requests that money be transferred to another person’s bank account, residents are advised not to rely solely on the phone number or text message provided by the requester.
Instead, they should independently verify the request by contacting the relevant institution, company or individual through an officially confirmed phone number or other trusted channel before making any payment.
“Cases involving requests for proxy purchases of gift certificates or payments for goods have continued to occur,” said Jeong Ju-wan, chief of the Hwangsan Police Substation. “We therefore developed this community-based prevention campaign using post office parcel services, which are frequently used by local residents.”
“We will continue to carry out a variety of crime-prevention campaigns tailored to the needs and perspectives of local residents,” he added.
Haenam Police Station plans to continue working with local community organizations so that residents can regularly encounter practical crime-prevention information in their everyday lives.
