해남교도소 교정협의회가 2026년 하반기 신규 교정위원들과 교정공무원이 함께하는 9월 정기모임을 갖고 수용자 교정·교화와 원활한 사회복귀 지원을 위한 협력을 다짐했다.

해남교도소 교정협의회는 지난 7일 오후 6시 해남읍 고기나라에서 ‘2026년 9월 정기모임’을 개최했다.
이날 행사에는 2026년 하반기 신규 위촉 교정위원 15명을 비롯해 교정공무원 8명과 교정위원 등 약 60명이 참석해 교정행정 발전과 교정·교화 활동에 대한 의견을 나누고 화합을 다졌다.

특히 이번 정기모임은 새롭게 위촉된 교정위원들이 기존 위원 및 교정공무원들과 공식적으로 자리를 함께하면서 앞으로의 활동 방향과 교정위원의 역할을 공유하는 의미 있는 자리로 마련됐다.

교정위원들은 수용자들이 건강하게 수용생활을 이어가고 출소 이후 안정적으로 사회에 복귀할 수 있도록 교화활동과 각종 지원사업에 적극적으로 참여하는 민간 교정 자원봉사자들이다.

이날 참석자들은 교정위원과 교정공무원 간 긴밀한 협력이 실질적인 교정·교화 성과로 이어질 수 있다는 데 뜻을 같이하고, 지역사회와 연계한 다양한 봉사와 지원활동을 지속해 나가기로 했다.

행사에서는 특히 이병주 해남교도소 교정협의회 상임부회장이 법무부장관 표창을 수상해 참석자들의 축하를 받았다.

이 상임부회장은 그동안 교정·교화 활동과 수용자 사회복귀 지원 등에 힘써온 공로를 인정받아 이번 표창의 영예를 안았다. 행사장에서는 꽃다발과 표창장을 전달하고 참석자들이 함께 축하하며 수상의 의미를 더했다.

교정협의회는 그동안 수용자들을 위한 각종 물품 지원과 교화사업, 상담 및 사회복귀 지원 등 다양한 활동을 이어오며 교정행정을 지원하고 있다.

특히 교정기관만의 노력으로 해결하기 어려운 수용자 교화와 재범 방지, 안정적인 사회복귀 과정에 지역사회가 함께 참여할 수 있도록 교정위원들이 민·관 가교 역할을 담당하고 있다.

이번 정기모임에서도 참석자들은 교정위원과 교정공무원 간 소통을 강화하고 신규 위원들이 현장 교화활동에 적극적으로 참여할 수 있도록 협력 기반을 더욱 공고히 하기로 했다.

해남교도소 교정협의회 관계자는 “바쁜 일정에도 정기모임에 참석해 주신 위원들과 교정공무원들께 감사드린다.”며 “법무부장관 표창을 수상한 이병주 상임부회장께도 다시 한 번 축하의 뜻을 전한다.”고 말했다.

이어 “앞으로도 교정공무원들과 긴밀하게 협력하면서 수용자들의 교정·교화와 건전한 사회복귀를 돕고, 지역사회와 함께하는 교정협의회가 될 수 있도록 다양한 활동을 이어가겠다.”고 밝혔다.

한편 이날 참석자들은 단체 기념촬영을 통해 ‘교정의 동행, 지역사회와 함께’라는 의미를 되새기며 교정행정 발전과 따뜻한 지역공동체 조성에 힘을 모을 것을 다짐했다.

The Haenam Correctional Council held its September regular meeting with newly appointed correctional committee members for the second half of 2026 and correctional officers, reaffirming their commitment to supporting the rehabilitation of inmates and their successful reintegration into society.

Around 60 people attended the event, including 15 newly appointed correctional committee members for the second half of 2026, eight correctional officers, and existing committee members. Participants exchanged views on the development of correctional administration and rehabilitation activities while strengthening mutual cooperation and fellowship.
The meeting was particularly meaningful as it provided the newly appointed members with their first official opportunity to meet existing committee members and correctional officers, share the direction of future activities, and better understand their roles and responsibilities.
Correctional committee members are civilian volunteers who participate in rehabilitation programs and various support initiatives to help inmates maintain stable lives while incarcerated and successfully return to society following their release.
Participants agreed that close cooperation between civilian committee members and correctional officers is essential to achieving meaningful rehabilitation outcomes. They also pledged to continue volunteer and support programs in cooperation with the local community.
A highlight of the meeting was the presentation of a Minister of Justice Commendation to Lee Byeong-ju, Executive Vice Chairman of the Haenam Correctional Council, drawing warm congratulations from those in attendance.
Lee received the commendation in recognition of his contributions to correctional and rehabilitation activities, including efforts to support the successful reintegration of inmates into society. Participants celebrated the honor with the presentation of a bouquet and commemorative photographs.
The Haenam Correctional Council has continued to support correctional administration through a wide range of initiatives, including the provision of essential supplies for inmates, rehabilitation programs, counseling, and assistance for successful social reintegration.
In particular, correctional committee members serve as an important bridge between correctional institutions and the local community, helping the community participate in rehabilitation, recidivism prevention, and the successful return of former inmates to society—areas that correctional institutions cannot address alone.
During the meeting, participants also agreed to strengthen communication between correctional committee members and correctional officers and to establish a stronger cooperative foundation so that newly appointed members can actively participate in rehabilitation activities.
A representative of the Haenam Correctional Council said, “We sincerely thank all committee members and correctional officers who took time from their busy schedules to attend the regular meeting. We would also like to once again congratulate Executive Vice Chairman Lee Byeong-ju on receiving the Minister of Justice Commendation.”
The representative added, “We will continue to work closely with correctional officers to support the rehabilitation and successful reintegration of inmates into society. We will also expand various activities so that the Haenam Correctional Council can continue working hand in hand with the local community.”
