전남광주통합특별시가 오랜 영농 경험과 연구를 바탕으로 독창적인 유기농업 기술을 보유한 농업인을 발굴해 ‘2026년 전남광주통합특별시 유기농 명인’으로 지정한다.

유기농 명인 지정제는 친환경농업인의 자긍심을 높이고 농업 현장에서 검증된 우수 유기농 기술을 확산하기 위해 2011년 전국 최초로 도입됐다.

모집 분야는 벼를 제외한 식량작물을 비롯해 원예작물, 특용작물, 축산, 기타 등 5개 분야다.

신청 대상은 전남광주통합특별시 지역에서 3천300㎡ 이상 규모의 유기식품 인증을 7년 이상 유지하면서 저비용·독창적 유기농업 실천기술을 개발하거나 보유한 농업인이다.

후보자 모집 기간은 오는 9월 2일까지다. 각 시·군이 추천한 농업인을 대상으로 서류심사와 현장평가를 실시한 뒤 친환경농업추진위원회 심의를 거쳐 오는 10월 최종 명인을 지정할 예정이다.

신청서와 구비서류는 전남광주통합특별시 누리집의 고시·공고에서 확인할 수 있다. 참여를 희망하는 농업인은 관련 서류를 갖춰 등기우편이나 전자우편으로 접수하면 된다.

유기농 명인으로 지정되면 친환경 과수·채소 전문단지 조성사업 등 전남광주통합특별시가 추진하는 명인 지원사업에 참여할 수 있다.
명인이 생산한 농식품에는 전남광주 유기농 명인 공동브랜드인 ‘명인드림’ 상표를 사용할 수 있으며, 해당 농장에는 명인 안내판과 현판도 설치된다.

전남광주통합특별시는 현재까지 친환경농업 분야에서 독창적인 농법과 기술을 보유한 농업인 30명을 유기농 명인으로 지정했다.

김영석 전남광주통합특별시 친환경농업과장은 “유기농 명인 지정을 통해 친환경농업인의 자긍심을 높이고 우수 유기농 기술을 확산하는 데 힘쓰겠다.”고 말했다.

유기농 명인 지정이 단순한 명예 부여에 머물지 않으려면 명인들이 축적한 재배기술을 표준화하고 교육·현장 실습과 연계해 지역 농가가 실제로 활용하도록 해야 한다. 명인별 핵심 농법과 생산비 절감 효과, 품질 향상 성과 등을 투명하게 공개해 전남광주 친환경농업의 경쟁력을 높이는 후속 지원도 필요하다.

South Jeolla–Gwangju Special Metropolitan City is seeking experienced farmers with innovative organic farming techniques for designation as its “2026 Organic Farming Masters.”
The Organic Farming Master designation program was introduced in 2011 as the first of its kind in South Korea. It is intended to enhance the pride of eco-friendly farmers and promote proven organic farming techniques developed in the field.
Applications are being accepted in five categories: food crops excluding rice, horticultural crops, specialty crops, livestock, and others.
Eligible applicants must be farmers in South Jeolla–Gwangju Special Metropolitan City who have maintained organic food certification for at least seven years on farmland measuring 3,300 square meters or more. They must also have developed or possess innovative, low-cost organic farming techniques.
Applications will be accepted through Sept. 2. Farmers recommended by each city and county will undergo document screening and on-site evaluation. The final designations will be made in October following deliberation by the Eco-Friendly Agriculture Promotion Committee.
Application forms and required documents are available in the Notices and Announcements section of the South Jeolla–Gwangju Special Metropolitan City website. Farmers wishing to apply may submit the required documents by registered mail or email.
Those designated as Organic Farming Masters will be eligible to participate in city-sponsored support programs, including projects to establish specialized eco-friendly fruit and vegetable farming complexes.
Agricultural and food products produced by the designated masters may carry “Myeongin Dream,” the city’s official Organic Farming Master brand. Signboards and plaques recognizing the designation will also be installed at their farms.
To date, South Jeolla–Gwangju Special Metropolitan City has designated 30 farmers with innovative methods and expertise as Organic Farming Masters.
“Through the Organic Farming Master designation program, we will work to enhance the pride of eco-friendly farmers and promote advanced organic farming techniques,” said Kim Young-seok, director of the city’s Eco-Friendly Agriculture Division.
The designation must go beyond simply bestowing an honorary title. The farming techniques accumulated by the masters should be standardized and incorporated into training and hands-on field programs so that other local farmers can put them into practice.
Continued support is also needed to strengthen the competitiveness of the region’s eco-friendly agricultural sector by transparently disclosing each master’s core farming methods, production-cost savings, and improvements in product quality.
