해남공업고등학교의 마이스터고 지정이 확정되면서 해남이 국가 AI·반도체 산업을 이끌 미래 전문인력 양성의 중심지로 도약하게 됐다.
최근 지역 곳곳에는 'AI반도체 인재육성(총 207억 원) 해남공고 마이스터고 지정'이라는 내용의 현수막이 게시되며 지역사회의 관심을 모으고 있다.
이번 마이스터고 지정은 교육부 제20차 마이스터고 공모사업 선정에 따른 것으로, 해남공고는 호남권 최초의 반도체 분야 마이스터고로 새롭게 출범하게 된다.
해남공고는 오는 2028년 개교를 목표로 AI인프라운영과를 신설하고 ▲AI공조냉동 ▲AI에너지 ▲AI반도체 등 3개 전문 코스를 운영할 예정이다.
기존 소프트웨어 중심 교육과 달리 AI 데이터센터와 반도체 산업 현장에서 즉시 활용 가능한 하드웨어 중심의 실무교육을 실시해 국가 전략산업에 필요한 전문 기술인력을 양성한다는 계획이다.
사업에는 국·도비를 포함해 총 207억 원이 투입된다.
주요 사업은 ▲교육시설 현대화 ▲기숙사 리모델링 및 증축 ▲최신 반도체·AI 실습장비 구축 ▲장학사업 확대 ▲교직원 전문연수 등으로 추진될 예정이다.
해남군도 교육환경 개선과 운영비 지원 등 행정적·재정적 지원을 확대해 마이스터고의 성공적인 안착을 적극 지원할 방침이다.
이번 마이스터고 지정은 단순한 학교 지정 이상의 의미를 갖는다.
해남에는 국가AI컴퓨팅센터 건립과 AI 데이터센터, 재생에너지 산업, RE100 국가산단 조성 등이 추진되고 있어 앞으로 AI·반도체·에너지 분야의 전문기술 인력 수요가 크게 증가할 것으로 전망된다.
이에 따라 지역에서 인재를 양성하고 지역 기업에 취업해 정착하는 선순환 구조를 구축할 수 있는 기반이 마련됐다는 평가를 받고 있다.
이번 성과는 교육부와 전라남도교육청, 해남군, 해남교육지원청, 해남공업고등학교를 비롯해 지역 정치권이 함께 협력한 결과라는 평가도 나온다.
특히 해남군은 지난해부터 마이스터고 지정 준비를 위해 학교와 업무협약을 체결하고 교육발전특구 사업과 연계해 미래형 기술인재 육성 기반을 구축해 왔다. 또한 올해 초에는 'AI·에너지 수도 도약을 위한 해남 미래선언'을 통해 교육과 산업을 연계하는 중장기 발전전략을 발표하기도 했다.
지역에서는 이번 마이스터고 지정이 해남이 추진 중인 AI 산업도시 전략의 핵심 기반이 될 것으로 기대하고 있다.
AI 데이터센터와 반도체 산업은 막대한 전력과 첨단 기술인력을 동시에 필요로 하는 산업인 만큼, 전문인력 양성 체계 구축은 기업 유치와 지역경제 활성화에도 큰 역할을 할 것으로 전망된다.
한편 최근 게시된 현수막에는 "AI반도체 인재육성(총 207억) 해남공고 마이스터고 지정!"이라는 문구와 함께 지역구 국회의원의 축하 메시지가 담겨 있으며, 이번 지정이 지역사회 전체가 함께 이뤄낸 성과라는 점을 강조하고 있다.
AI 산업과 반도체 산업의 핵심 인재를 지역에서 직접 양성하는 해남공고 마이스터고가 앞으로 대한민국 남부권 미래산업 교육의 새로운 모델로 자리매김할 수 있을지 관심이 모아지고 있다.

Haenam Technical High School has officially been designated as a Meister High School, marking a significant milestone in transforming Haenam into a leading hub for cultivating the next generation of professionals in Korea's AI and semiconductor industries.
Celebration banners have recently appeared throughout the region announcing, "AI Semiconductor Talent Development (KRW 20.7 Billion) – Haenam Technical High School Designated as a Meister High School," drawing widespread public attention.
The designation resulted from the Ministry of Education's 20th Meister High School Selection Program. Haenam Technical High School will become the first semiconductor-specialized Meister High School in the Honam region.
The school is scheduled to open under its new system in 2028 with the establishment of a new AI Infrastructure Operations Department, offering three specialized tracks:
AI Refrigeration & Air Conditioning
AI Energy Systems
AI Semiconductors
Unlike conventional software-oriented education, the curriculum will focus on hardware-based practical training designed to prepare students for immediate employment in AI data centers and semiconductor manufacturing facilities, supplying highly skilled professionals for Korea's strategic industries.
A total investment of KRW 20.7 billion from national and provincial governments will support the project.
Major initiatives include:
Modernization of educational facilities
Expansion and renovation of dormitories
Installation of state-of-the-art AI and semiconductor training equipment
Expansion of scholarship programs
Professional development for faculty members
Haenam County will also provide administrative and financial support, including improvements to the educational environment and operational assistance, to ensure the successful establishment of the Meister High School.
The designation carries significance far beyond the transformation of a single educational institution.
Haenam is currently promoting several large-scale national projects, including the National AI Computing Center, AI data centers, renewable energy industries, and RE100 industrial complexes. As demand for skilled professionals in AI, semiconductors, and energy continues to grow, the new Meister High School is expected to play a pivotal role in supplying the workforce needed for these emerging industries.
The initiative is also expected to create a virtuous cycle in which local students receive advanced technical education, secure employment with regional industries, and contribute to the sustainable development of the local economy.
The achievement is widely regarded as the result of close cooperation among the Ministry of Education, the Jeollanam-do Office of Education, Haenam County, the Haenam Office of Education, Haenam Technical High School, and local political leaders.
Haenam County has been preparing for the Meister High School designation through cooperative agreements with the school and by linking the project to its Education Development Special Zone initiative. Earlier this year, the county also announced its long-term vision of becoming Korea's "AI and Energy Capital," integrating industrial development with advanced technical education.
Local officials and residents believe the designation will become a cornerstone of Haenam's strategy to develop into a leading AI industrial city.
Since AI data centers and semiconductor industries require both enormous power resources and highly skilled technical personnel, establishing a systematic talent development system is expected to strengthen business investment, attract advanced industries, and revitalize the regional economy.
Meanwhile, recently displayed banners celebrating the achievement emphasize that the designation represents a collective accomplishment of the entire community, featuring the message, "AI Semiconductor Talent Development (KRW 20.7 Billion) – Haenam Technical High School Designated as a Meister High School!"
As Haenam Technical High School begins training future professionals for Korea's AI and semiconductor industries, expectations are growing that it will become a new model for advanced technical education across southern Korea and contribute significantly to the nation's future industrial competitiveness.
