더불어민주당 민형배 전남광주통합특별시장 후보가 ‘전남광주 대전환 선거대책위원회’를 공식 출범시키며 지방선거 본선 체제에 돌입했다.

시민주권과 AI·미래산업 중심의 경제대전환을 전면에 내세운 이번 선대위 출범은 전남·광주 통합특별시 시대를 향한 정치적 결집이자 지역 대도약 프로젝트의 본격 신호탄으로 평가된다.
민 후보는 10일 오후 광주 민심캠프 사무소에서 ‘전남광주 대전환 선거대책위원회’ 출범식을 열고 “압도적 성장과 더 큰 전남광주를 반드시 현실로 만들겠다”고 선언했다.

이날 행사에는 정청래 더불어민주당 대표와 박지원 국회의원을 비롯해 서삼석·권향엽·김문수·박균택·안도걸·전진숙·정준호·정진욱·조계원·조인철 의원 등 전남·광주 지역 국회의원들과 시민사회·노동·산업·청년·농어민·문화예술계 인사 등 200여 명이 참석해 원팀 결의를 다졌다.

정청래 대표는 축사를 통해 민 후보를 “김대중의 민주주의 정신, 노무현의 국민통합 정신, 문재인의 한반도 평화 정신, 이재명의 실사구시 정신을 한 몸에 갖춘 전남광주통합특별시장의 적임자”라고 평가했다.

이어 “더불어민주당과 이재명 정부가 민형배를 혼자 두지 않겠다.”며 “전남광주 통합의 미래를 함께 설계하고 발전을 이끌겠다.”고 강조했다.
또한 지지자들을 향해 “‘내가 곧 민형배’라는 마음으로 손발이 되고 심장이 되어 전남광주 통합의 새 역사를 함께 만들어 달라”고 호소했다.
민형배 후보는 연설에서 전남과 광주의 분리 역사를 언급하며 통합특별시의 시대적 의미를 강하게 부각했다.

민 후보는 “1980년 5월 신군부의 총칼 속에서 민주주의를 지켜냈지만, 이후 전남과 광주는 억지로 갈라져 예산과 사업, 인재와 기회를 두고 경쟁해야 했다”며 “이제 그 오랜 인고의 시간을 넘어 대한민국을 뒤흔들 거대한 성장축으로 도약할 기회가 왔다”고 말했다.

이어 “전남광주의 성공이 곧 이재명 정부의 성공”이라며 “AI·반도체·미래차·데이터 산업이 넘쳐나는 경제대도약을 반드시 이루고, 청년들이 더 이상 고향을 떠나지 않아도 되는 도시를 만들겠다”고 밝혔다.
특히 민 후보는 시민 참여형 행정 모델인 ‘시민주권정부’를 다시 한 번 핵심 비전으로 제시했다.

그는 “시정의 중요한 결정은 시민께 투명하게 공개하고 시민의 뜻이 예산·인사·정책에 직접 반영되는 구조를 만들겠다.”며 “가장 앞에서 뛰고 가장 낮은 곳에서 듣는 시장이 되겠다.”고 강조했다.
이번에 출범한 ‘전남광주 대전환 선대위’는 ‘시민주권·미래도약·원팀’ 3대 축을 중심으로 구성됐다.

특히 시민 누구나 의제를 발의하고 실행에 참여할 수 있도록 한 ‘사발통문형’ 수평 참여 구조를 도입해 기존 선거조직과 차별화를 시도했다는 평가다.
이날 가장 주목받은 인선은 삼성전자 부사장 출신인 주은기 삼성전자 고문의 경제특별고문 합류였다.

민 후보는 직접 위촉장을 전달하며 “기업의 언어와 산업 현장의 속도를 누구보다 깊이 이해하는 분”이라며 “AI·에너지·미래산업 중심의 전남광주 대전환 전략을 함께 설계할 핵심 인물”이라고 소개했다.
주은기 고문은 향후 AI 산업 생태계 구축과 첨단산업 전략 수립 과정에서 핵심 조력자로 활동할 예정이다.

후원회장에는 이광재 더불어민주당 경기 하남갑 국회의원 보궐선거 후보와 정성택 전 전남대학교 총장, 양동호 투게더광산 나눔문화재단 이사장이 이름을 올렸다.
총괄상임선대위원장은 김원이 민주당 전남도당위원장, 양부남 광주시당위원장, 주철현 국회의원, 박기영 순천대학교 교수가 맡았다.
상임선대위원장에는 박지원 의원을 비롯한 전남·광주 지역 국회의원 전원이 참여하며, 총괄상황본부장에는 윤주식 전 국회의원 보좌관이 선임됐다.

법률지원단장은 민심캠프 공명선거감시단장을 지낸 양은숙 변호사가 맡아 선거 전반의 법률 대응과 공정선거 감시를 담당한다.
비서실장에는 김대중 민선7기 광주광역시 비서실장, 공동조직본부장에는 정장우 민선7기 광주광역시 정무특별보좌관과 변원섭 전 한국능률협회 공공혁신본부장이 임명됐다.

또 수석대변인에는 윤난실 전 청와대 제도개혁비서관, 공보단장에는 김기봉 전 국회의원 보좌관, 방송TV토론본부장에는 박태명 전 kbc 광주방송 편성제작국장, 메시지실장에는 이정우 전 더불어광주연구원장, 정책본부장에는 이민철 전 광주지역문제해결플랫폼 집행위원장, 총무본부장에는 박수미 전 국회의원 보좌관이 각각 선임됐다.

정치권 안팎에서는 이번 선대위 출범이 단순한 선거조직을 넘어 ‘전남광주통합특별시’라는 거대한 지역 재편 프로젝트를 본격화하는 정치적 플랫폼이 될 수 있을지 주목하고 있다.

Min Hyung-bae, the Democratic Party candidate for Mayor of the Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City, officially launched the “Jeonnam-Gwangju Grand Transformation Election Committee,” marking the beginning of his full-scale local election campaign.
Centered on citizen sovereignty and an AI-driven future industrial transformation, the launch of the committee is being viewed as both a political consolidation for the era of the Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City and the starting point of a major regional leap forward.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony held on the afternoon of the 10th at the Gwangju People’s Campaign Office, Min declared, “We will 반드시 realize overwhelming growth and create a greater Jeonnam-Gwangju.”
The event was attended by Democratic Party leader Jung Chung-rae, National Assembly member Park Jie-won, and lawmakers including Seo Sam-seok, Kwon Hyang-yeop, Kim Moon-soo, Park Gyun-taek, Ahn Do-geol, Jeon Jin-sook, Jung Jun-ho, Jung Jin-wook, Cho Gye-won, and Cho In-cheol, along with more than 200 figures from civil society, labor, industry, youth, farming and fishing communities, and the arts sector.
In his congratulatory speech, Jung Chung-rae described Min as “the ideal candidate for mayor of the Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City, embodying Kim Dae-jung’s spirit of democracy, Roh Moo-hyun’s spirit of national unity, Moon Jae-in’s spirit of peace on the Korean Peninsula, and Lee Jae-myung’s spirit of pragmatic governance.”
Jung added, “The Democratic Party and the Lee Jae-myung administration will not leave Min Hyung-bae to struggle alone. We will design the future of Jeonnam-Gwangju integration together and lead its development.”
He also urged supporters to “become Min Hyung-bae’s hands, feet, and heartbeat, and together create a new chapter in the history of Jeonnam-Gwangju integration.”
During his speech, Min highlighted the historical separation between Jeonnam and Gwangju and stressed the significance of integration.
“Although the people defended democracy against the guns of the military regime in May 1980, Jeonnam and Gwangju were later forcibly divided, competing against each other for budgets, projects, talent, and opportunities,” he said. “Now, after years of endurance, the opportunity has come for us to emerge as a massive new growth axis that will reshape South Korea.”
Min also emphasized that “the success of Jeonnam-Gwangju will become the success of the Lee Jae-myung government,” pledging to achieve a “great economic leap” through AI, semiconductors, future mobility, and data industries, while creating a city where young people no longer need to leave their hometowns.
He once again presented his vision of a “Citizen Sovereignty Government,” emphasizing direct public participation in governance.
“Important municipal decisions will be transparently disclosed to citizens, and the people’s will will directly shape budgets, personnel appointments, and policies,” he said. “I will be the kind of mayor who runs at the forefront, listens from the lowest places, and moves the fastest.”
The newly launched election committee is structured around three pillars: “Citizen Sovereignty,” “Future Leap,” and “One Team.”
In particular, the campaign introduced a horizontally participatory “Sabal Tongmun-style” structure, allowing ordinary citizens to propose agendas and directly participate in implementation, distinguishing itself from traditional election organizations.
One of the most notable appointments announced that day was Joo Eun-ki, former Samsung Electronics vice president, who joined the campaign as Senior Economic Adviser.
Presenting the appointment certificate himself, Min said, “He is someone who deeply understands the language of business and the speed of industrial fields better than anyone else,” adding that Joo would play a key role in designing Jeonnam-Gwangju’s transformation strategy centered on AI, energy, and future industries.
Joo is expected to serve as a major strategist in building the regional AI industrial ecosystem and advancing high-tech industry policies.
The campaign’s honorary co-chairs include Lee Kwang-jae, Democratic Party candidate in the Hanam-gap by-election in Gyeonggi Province; former Chonnam National University President Chung Sung-taek; and Yang Dong-ho, chairman of the Together Gwangsan Sharing Culture Foundation.
Chief Standing Election Committee members include Kim Won-i, chairman of the Democratic Party’s Jeonnam chapter; Yang Bu-nam, chairman of the Gwangju chapter; National Assembly member Joo Chul-hyun; and Professor Park Ki-young of Sunchon National University.
All Democratic Party lawmakers from Jeonnam and Gwangju are participating as standing election committee members, while former National Assembly aide Yoon Joo-sik was appointed chief situation manager.
Attorney Yang Eun-sook, former head of the campaign’s Fair Election Monitoring Team, will lead the legal support division responsible for election-related legal affairs and fair election oversight.
Kim Dae-jung, former chief secretary to the mayor of Gwangju Metropolitan City during the 7th local administration, was appointed chief secretary, while Jung Jang-woo, former political adviser to the Gwangju mayor, and Byun Won-seop, former head of public innovation at the Korea Management Association, were named co-heads of organization.
Additional appointments include Yoon Nan-sil, former Blue House secretary for institutional reform, as chief spokesperson; Kim Ki-bong, former National Assembly aide, as head of public relations; Park Tae-myung, former head of programming and production at KBC Gwangju Broadcasting, as head of TV debate strategy; Lee Jung-woo, former director of the Together Gwangju Institute, as chief message strategist; Lee Min-cheol, former executive chairman of the Gwangju Regional Problem-Solving Platform, as policy director; and Park Soo-mi, former National Assembly aide, as head of general affairs.
Political observers say the launch of the election committee is drawing attention not merely as a campaign organization, but as a political platform that could accelerate the large-scale regional restructuring project known as the “Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City.”
