더불어민주당 전남·광주 통합특별시장 경선 후보인 민형배 국회의원(광주 광산구을)이 결선 진출 이후 첫 공식 메시지로 ‘서부권 대도약’을 선언하며 본격적인 승부수에 나섰다.

민 후보는 6일 오전 전남도의회 브리핑룸에서 기자회견을 열고 “서부권을 재생에너지 기반 산업 중심지로 육성해 전남광주 경제의 새로운 성장축으로 만들겠다”며 결선 승리 의지를 밝혔다.

■ “햇빛과 바람을 산업으로”… 서부권 일자리 대전환 선언
민 후보는 서부권 미래 비전의 핵심으로 ‘재생에너지 산업화’를 제시했다.
그는 “서부권은 풍부한 재생에너지와 시민 역량을 바탕으로 특별시 경제 발전의 중심이 될 것”이라며 “햇빛과 바람을 산업 경쟁력으로 전환해 양질의 일자리가 넘치는 대도약 시대를 열겠다.”고 강조했다.
특히 태양광·풍력을 단순 발전을 넘어선 ‘산업 생태계’로 규정하며 구체적인 산업 구조를 제시했다.
민 후보는 “풍력 블레이드와 하부구조물 제조, 해상 설치와 항만 물류, 20~30년간 지속되는 유지보수(MRO) 산업까지 연결되는 고부가가치 산업”이라며 “서부권에 안정적이고 지속 가능한 일자리 기반을 구축하겠다”고 밝혔다.
이어 “서부권을 대한민국 재생에너지 산업 수도로 키우겠다.”고 덧붙였다.

■ “비방 없는 선거”… 품격 경쟁 강조
민 후보는 결선 국면에서의 정치 태도에 대해서도 분명한 입장을 밝혔다.
그는 “압도적 지지로 결선에 올려주신 시민께 감사드린다.”며 “더 낮고 겸손한 자세로 오직 시민만 바라보겠다.”고 말했다.
이어 “비방과 흠집내기가 아닌 비전과 실력으로 경쟁하겠다”며 “호남 정치의 품격을 지키는 선거를 만들겠다.”고 강조했다.

■ “지금은 민생 위기”… 긴급 대응 의지
최근 국제 정세에 따른 경제 불안 상황에 대해서도 직접 언급했다.
민 후보는 “중동발 전쟁 여파로 유가와 원자재 가격이 출렁이며 지역 경제와 시민 삶이 직접적인 충격을 받고 있다”고 진단했다.
그러면서 “기름값을 걱정하는 주민, 버티기 힘든 소상공인, 빚 부담에 시달리는 농어민, 일자리 불안에 놓인 청년, 생활고를 호소하는 어르신들이 떠오른다”며 “정치인으로서 송구하다”고 밝혔다.
이어 “시민 삶이 흔들리지 않도록 필요한 대응을 빈틈없이 챙기겠다.”고 강조했다.

■ “결선은 역사 선택”… 통합 5대 원칙 제시
민 후보는 이번 결선을 “전남광주통합특별시의 미래를 결정하는 역사적 갈림길”로 규정했다.
그는 통합의 핵심 방향으로 ▲성장 ▲균형 ▲기본소득 ▲녹색도시 ▲시민주권 등 5대 원칙을 제시했다.
특히 “전남광주를 남부권 신산업 수도로 만들어 거대한 일자리 생태계를 구축하고, 재생에너지를 산업 경쟁력으로 전환해 ‘100원 전기’ 시대를 열겠다.”고 밝혔다.
또 “어느 지역도 소외되지 않도록 예산과 제도를 법적으로 보장하고, 통합의 성과가 시민 삶으로 돌아가도록 하겠다.”고 강조했다.

■ “에너지·식량·영토 주권 중심지로 도약”
민 후보는 전남광주의 국가적 역할도 제시했다.
그는 ▲재생에너지 기반 에너지 주권 ▲농수산 중심 식량 주권 ▲해양·도서 기반 영토 주권을 동시에 강화하는 전략을 밝혔다.
이어 “이 모든 구상은 전남광주에 ‘힘’을 만드는 일”이라며 “서울에 휘둘리지 않는 힘, 시민이 삶을 바꾸는 힘, 지역이 미래를 만드는 힘을 구축하겠다.”고 말했다.

■ “이재명 정부와 함께”… 국가 지원 연결 강조
민 후보는 중앙정부와의 협력도 핵심 전략으로 내세웠다.
그는 “이재명 정부와 긴밀히 협력해 국가 지원을 지역 성장과 시민 삶의 변화로 연결하겠다.”며 “그 역할을 가장 잘 해낼 적임자”라고 강조했다.
마지막으로 민 후보는 “결선까지 흔들림 없이 가장 낮은 자세로 뛰겠다”며 “더 큰 통합, 더 강한 전남광주를 반드시 실현하겠다.”고 밝혔다.

Min Hyung-bae, a National Assembly member (Gwangju Gwangsan-eul) and candidate in the Democratic Party’s primary for the integrated Jeonnam-Gwangju Special City mayor, has officially declared a “Western Region Great Leap Forward” as his first major message after advancing to the runoff, signaling a full-scale push for victory.
At a press conference held at the Jeonnam Provincial Council briefing room on the morning of the 6th, Min stated, “We will foster the western region as a renewable energy-based industrial hub and make it a new growth axis for the Jeonnam-Gwangju economy,” expressing strong determination to win the runoff.

Min presented “industrialization of renewable energy” as the core vision for the western region’s future.

He defined solar and wind power not merely as power generation industries but as a comprehensive industrial ecosystem.
Min explained, “This is a high value-added industry that connects manufacturing of wind turbine blades and substructures, offshore installation and port logistics, and maintenance (MRO) industries that continue for 20 to 30 years,” adding, “We will establish a stable and sustainable job foundation in the western region.”
He further stated, “We will develop the western region into Korea’s renewable energy industrial capital.”
■ “A Campaign Without Smears”… Emphasis on Dignified Competition
Min also made clear his stance on political conduct during the runoff.
He said, “I sincerely thank the citizens who supported me overwhelmingly to reach the runoff,” adding, “I will remain humble and focus solely on the people.”
He stressed, “We will compete through vision and competence, not slander and attacks,” and pledged to “uphold the dignity of Honam politics.”
■ “A Livelihood Crisis Is Underway”… Commitment to Immediate Response
Min addressed the current economic instability driven by global tensions.
He noted, “Due to the impact of conflicts in the Middle East, oil and raw material prices are fluctuating, directly affecting the regional economy and people’s lives.”
He added, “I think of residents worried about fuel costs, small business owners struggling to survive, farmers and fishermen burdened by debt, young people anxious about jobs, and elderly citizens facing financial hardship. As a politician, I feel deeply sorry.”
He pledged, “We will take all necessary measures without gaps to ensure that citizens’ lives are not shaken and that the regional economy remains resilient.”

Min defined the runoff as “a historic crossroads that will determine the future vision of the Jeonnam-Gwangju Special City.”

Min also outlined the national role of Jeonnam-Gwangju.

He stated, “All of this is about creating strength for Jeonnam-Gwangju,” adding, “We will build the power to stand independently of Seoul, empower citizens to change their lives, and enable the region to shape its own future.”

Min highlighted cooperation with the central government as a key strategy.
He said, “We will work closely with the Lee Jae-myung administration to connect national support to regional growth and tangible improvements in citizens’ lives,” emphasizing, “I am the most suitable candidate to accomplish this role.”
In closing, Min stated, “I will continue to run with the lowest posture until the runoff,” adding, “I will 반드시 realize greater integration and a stronger Jeonnam-Gwangju.”
