민형배 경선사무소 ‘민심캠프’는 30일 “기아자동차 노동자 30여 명이 지난 29일 경선사무소를 방문해 지지 의사를 전달하고, 총 1,124명의 뜻이 담긴 공식 지지 선언문을 발표했다”고 밝혔다.

이번 지지 선언은 단순한 정치적 지지 표명을 넘어, 전기차·미래 모빌리티로 급변하는 산업 구조 속에서 ‘노동과 산업의 동반 생존 전략’을 둘러싼 현장의 집단적 판단이라는 점에서 의미가 크다.

지지 선언에 참여한 노동자들은 “자동차 산업은 지금 전기차와 미래 모빌리티로의 대전환이라는 거대한 흐름 속에 있다”며 “이 과정에서 노동자의 일자리와 지역 산업을 동시에 지켜낼 수 있는 강력한 리더십이 절실하다”고 밝혔다.
이어 “산업 전환은 피할 수 없는 흐름이지만, 준비 없는 전환은 곧 일자리 붕괴로 이어진다”며 “노동을 보호하면서도 산업 경쟁력을 키울 수 있는 정책을 갖춘 후보는 민형배 뿐”이라고 강조했다.

노동자들은 특히 민 후보가 제시한 ‘5대 핵심 노동정책’이 산업 현장의 고민을 정확히 반영하고 있다고 평가했다.

▲미래차·배터리 신산업 인력 양성
▲제조업 노동자 직무전환 교육 및 고용유지 지원

이들은 “특히 중소 부품사와 비정규·취약 노동자까지 포괄하는 안전망 구축 정책은 자동차 산업 생태계 전체를 살리는 해법”이라며 “현장을 이해하지 못하면 절대 나올 수 없는 정책”이라고 평가했다.

■ “통합특별시, 노동의 도시로”… 미래 일자리 설계 요구
노동자들은 “전남·광주의 통합은 단순한 행정 통합이 아니라, 더 많은 기회와 안정적인 일자리를 만드는 산업 재편의 출발점이 되어야 한다.”며 “산업 구조가 바뀌어도 미래를 설계할 수 있는 도시를 만드는 것이 핵심 과제”라고 밝혔다.
이어 “노동이 존중받고 산업이 성장하는 도시, 그 균형을 실현할 적임자가 바로 민형배 후보”라고 지지 배경을 설명했다.

■ 민형배 “현장의 선택, 반드시 결과로 증명하겠다”
이에 대해 민형배 후보는 “지역 경제의 심장인 자동차 산업 노동자들의 지지는 무엇보다 무겁고 값진 책임”이라며 “현장의 땀과 삶이 정책으로 연결되는 도시를 반드시 만들겠다.”고 밝혔다.

또한 “노동이 존중받는 산업 구조 없이 미래 경쟁력은 존재할 수 없다”며 “전남광주통합특별시를 대한민국 최고의 미래차 산업 거점이자 노동이 당당한 도시로 만들겠다.”고 강조했다.

A total of 1,124 workers from Kia Corporation have officially declared their support for Min Hyung-bae, a National Assembly member (Gwangju Gwangsan-eul) and a candidate in the Democratic Party primary for the Jeonnam–Gwangju Integrated Special City mayoral race—signaling a major shift in the electoral landscape.
According to Min’s campaign office, the “Minshim Camp,” around 30 Kia workers visited the campaign office on March 29 to deliver their endorsement, presenting a formal declaration backed by 1,124 workers.
This endorsement goes beyond a simple political gesture. It reflects a collective judgment from the field regarding a “coexistence strategy for labor and industry” amid the rapid transformation toward electric vehicles and future mobility.

They emphasized, “Industrial transition is inevitable, but unprepared transition leads directly to job losses. The only candidate with policies that both protect labor and enhance industrial competitiveness is Min Hyung-bae.”

Workers highlighted that Min’s “five core labor policies” accurately reflect the realities of industrial sites. These include:
Establishing a labor support system for AI and climate-driven industrial transition
Training workforce for future mobility and battery industries
Job transition education and employment retention support for manufacturing workers
Introducing a 4.5-day workweek to improve work-life balance
Establishing labor safety and health centers and a Jeonnam–Gwangju-style sickness benefit system
They noted, “Policies that build a safety net encompassing small suppliers and vulnerable workers offer a solution to sustain the entire automotive ecosystem,” adding, “These are policies that could not have emerged without a deep understanding of the field.”

Workers stressed, “The integration of Jeonnam and Gwangju should not be a mere administrative merger, but a starting point for industrial restructuring that creates more opportunities and stable jobs.”
They added, “The key task is to build a city where people can design their future even as industrial structures change,” explaining that “Min Hyung-bae is the right candidate to achieve a balance where labor is respected and industry grows.”
