전라남도보건환경연구원이 감염병 위기 대응 역량을 높이기 위해 호남권 공공기관과 공동 대응 체계를 강화하고 나섰다.

전라남도보건환경연구원은 최근 ‘2026 호남권 공공기관 감염병 진단·분석 협의체’를 열어 감염병 진단 성과를 공유하고 권역 단위 공동 대응체계를 점검했다고 밝혔다.

이번 협의체에는 질병관리청 호남권질병대응센터를 비롯해 전남·광주·전북·제주 보건환경연구원 부서장과 실무 담당자 등 40여 명이 참석했다.
참석 기관들은 호남권 공공기관의 감염병 진단·분석 성과를 공유하고 감염병 감시체계 운영 현황과 협력 방안을 집중 논의했다.
이날 회의에서는 각 기관의 감염병 연구 성과 발표도 이어졌다.

전라남도보건환경연구원은 ‘도내 호흡기 바이러스 유전형 분석을 통한 유행 양상 및 특성 연구’ 결과를 발표하며 지역 내 호흡기 감염병 확산 패턴 분석 성과를 공유했다.

광주광역시는 ‘노로바이러스 중합효소 분석을 통한 유전형 다양성 연구(2020~2024년)’ 결과를 소개하며 지역 내 식중독 유발 바이러스의 변이 특성을 분석한 연구 성과를 발표했다.

전북특별자치도는 ‘메타지노믹스를 이용한 야생 설치류 감염병 병원체 보유 실태 연구’ 결과를 통해 자연생태계에서의 감염병 병원체 존재 가능성을 제시했다.

제주특별자치도는 ‘제주지역 환자에서 분리된 CRE 특성 연구’를 통해 항생제 내성균의 지역 내 특성과 확산 가능성에 대한 연구 성과를 공유했다.

또한 질병관리청 호남권질병대응센터는 2025년 주요 업무 추진 실적과 2026년 추진 계획을 설명하고, 권역 단위 감염병 감시와 공동 대응 체계를 더욱 강화하기 위한 협력 방향을 제시했다.

참석 기관들은 감염병 대응에서 지역 간 정보 공유와 공동 분석의 중요성을 강조하며, 호남권 감염병 대응 네트워크를 지속적으로 강화하기로 뜻을 모았다.

안양준 전라남도보건환경연구원장은 “감염병은 지역 경계를 넘어 확산되는 만큼 권역 단위 협력 체계가 무엇보다 중요하다”며 “호남권 방역 협력을 더욱 강화해 감염병 대응 역량을 높이고 도민의 건강과 안전을 지키는 데 최선을 다하겠다.”고 말했다.

The Jeonnam Institute of Health and Environment has stepped up efforts to strengthen joint response systems with public institutions across the Honam region to enhance preparedness against infectious disease crises.
The institute recently held the “2026 Honam Public Institutions Infectious Disease Diagnosis and Analysis Council”, where participants shared achievements in infectious disease diagnostics and reviewed regional joint response mechanisms.
The meeting was attended by around 40 officials, including representatives from the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency’s Honam Regional Disease Response Center, as well as department heads and working-level staff from the health and environment research institutes of Jeonnam, Gwangju, Jeonbuk, and Jeju.
Participants shared diagnostic and analytical achievements related to infectious diseases and discussed the current status of surveillance systems and ways to strengthen cooperation across the Honam region.
Research findings from each institution were also presented during the meeting.
The Jeonnam Institute of Health and Environment introduced its study titled “Analysis of Epidemic Patterns and Characteristics through Genotype Analysis of Respiratory Viruses in Jeonnam Province,” presenting findings on the spread patterns of respiratory infectious diseases in the region.
The Gwangju Metropolitan Government presented the results of its research titled “Genotype Diversity of Norovirus Based on Polymerase Analysis (2020–2024),” analyzing genetic variations of viruses responsible for foodborne illnesses.
Jeonbuk State introduced its study “Investigation of Pathogen Carriage in Wild Rodents Using Metagenomics,” highlighting the potential presence of infectious disease pathogens in natural ecosystems.
Jeju Special Self-Governing Province presented its research “Characteristics of CRE Isolated from Patients in the Jeju Region,” sharing findings on the characteristics and potential spread of antibiotic-resistant bacteria.
The KDCA Honam Regional Disease Response Center also presented its key achievements in 2025 and outlined major plans for 2026, proposing directions for strengthening regional infectious disease surveillance and cooperative response systems.
Participating institutions emphasized the importance of information sharing and joint analysis between regions in responding to infectious diseases, agreeing to continue strengthening the Honam regional infectious disease response network.
Ahn Yang-jun, Director of the Jeonnam Institute of Health and Environment, said,
“Because infectious diseases spread beyond regional boundaries, a coordinated regional cooperation system is essential,”
adding, “We will further strengthen quarantine cooperation in the Honam region to enhance our capacity to respond to infectious diseases and protect the health and safety of residents.”
