해남군장애인종합복지관(관장 김도영)이 설 명절을 앞두고 지역 장애인 300여 명과 함께하는 ‘설맞이 민속한마당’을 열며, 외로움 대신 어울림으로 채운 따뜻한 명절 풍경을 연출했다.
복지관은 지난 2월 12일 복지관 마당에서 명절을 가족과 함께 보내기 어려운 장애인들이 지역사회 안에서 설의 정을 느낄 수 있도록 이번 행사를 마련했다고 밝혔다.
행사 당일 복지관 마당에는 웃음과 대화가 끊이지 않았고, 참가자들은 서로의 안부를 묻고 덕담을 나누며 명절 분위기를 만끽했다.
행사장에서는 복지관 직원과 자원봉사자들이 직접 부친 전과 가래떡구이를 제공하며 따뜻한 먹거리를 나눴다.
복조리·소원등 만들기, 떡매치기 체험, 제기차기·투호 등 다양한 민속놀이 부스도 운영돼 참여자들이 어린 시절의 추억을 떠올리며 함께 어울리는 시간을 보냈다.
무대 공연도 흥을 더했다.
진도군 가수협회와 아랑고고장구 해남지부, 스타기획 음향팀이 재능기부로 참여해 전통 가락과 대중가요 공연을 선보였다.
흥겨운 장단과 노랫소리에 참가자들의 박수와 환호가 이어지며 복지관 마당은 하나의 큰 공연장으로 변했다.
행사에 참여한 한 이용자는 “명절이 오면 괜히 더 쓸쓸하게 느껴질 때가 많았는데, 오늘은 사람들과 함께 웃고 박수 치며 오랜만에 설다운 하루를 보낸 것 같다”고 소감을 전했다.
이번 행사는 육류천왕(대표 정훈기), 농부의마음(대표 이효선), 동초2023학부모회, 해남농협, 인수영농조합, 김소형, 서막래 등 지역 후원자들의 지원으로 더욱 풍성하게 진행됐다.
후원금품은 행사 식사 제공과 명절 나눔 꾸러미 준비에 사용되며, 지역사회 연대의 의미를 더했다.
김도영 관장은 “명절은 누군가에게는 기다려지는 날이지만, 또 다른 누군가에게는 외로움이 더 크게 느껴질 수 있는 시간”이라며 “설맞이 민속한마당과 같은 행사를 통해 장애인들이 혼자가 아닌 ‘함께’라는 감정을 느낄 수 있도록 지역사회와 손잡고 지속적으로 노력하겠다.”고 밝혔다.
해남군장애인종합복지관은 앞으로도 장애인과 비장애인이 함께 참여하는 문화·여가 프로그램을 확대 운영하며, 지역사회 내 상호이해와 포용 문화 확산에 힘써 나갈 계획이다.

“No One Is Alone at Seollal” — 300 People Fill the Yard with Laughter
Haenam County Disabled Welfare Center Hosts Successful Lunar New Year Folk Festival
해남군장애인종합복지관 (Director: Kim Do-young) hosted a “Seollal Folk Festival” ahead of the Lunar New Year, bringing together approximately 300 local persons with disabilities and creating a warm holiday atmosphere filled with togetherness instead of loneliness.
According to the center, the event was held on February 12 in the courtyard of the welfare center to help those who find it difficult to spend the holiday with family experience the warmth and spirit of Seollal within the local community. Throughout the day, laughter and conversation filled the yard as participants exchanged greetings and New Year wishes, enjoying a true festive atmosphere.
Staff members and volunteers prepared and served traditional Korean pancakes (jeon) and grilled garaetteok (cylindrical rice cakes), sharing warm food with attendees. Various traditional activity booths were also operated, including making bokjori (lucky straw scoops) and wish lanterns, rice-cake pounding experiences, and folk games such as jegichagi (Korean shuttlecock kicking) and tuho (arrow throwing). Participants reminisced about childhood memories while enjoying the activities together.
Stage performances further heightened the festive mood. The Jindo Singers Association, Arang Gogo Janggu Haenam Branch, and Star Planning Sound Team participated through talent donations, presenting traditional rhythms and popular songs. Applause and cheers accompanied the lively performances, turning the welfare center courtyard into a vibrant outdoor concert venue.
One participant shared, “Holidays often feel even lonelier, but today I laughed and clapped together with others. It truly felt like Seollal for the first time in a long while.”
The event was made even more meaningful through the support of local sponsors, including Yukryucheonwang (CEO Jung Hoon-gi), Farmer’s Heart (CEO Lee Hyo-seon), Dongcho 2023 Parents’ Association, Haenam Nonghyup, Insu Agricultural Cooperative Corporation, Kim So-hyeong, and Seo Mak-rae. Donations were used to provide meals and prepare holiday gift packages, reflecting the spirit of community solidarity.
Director Kim Do-young stated, “For some, the holiday is a long-awaited day, but for others, it can be a time when loneliness feels even heavier. Through events like this Seollal Folk Festival, we will continue working with the community so that persons with disabilities can feel they are not alone, but together.”
The Haenam County Disabled Welfare Center plans to continue expanding cultural and leisure programs in which people with and without disabilities can participate together, fostering mutual understanding and an inclusive community culture.
