전남·광주 행정통합 논의가 도민과 직접 마주하는 단계로 접어들었다.
설명과 공청회의 시간을 지나, 이제는 질문과 응답이 오가는 공개 토론의 장이 본격적으로 열리고 있다.

전라남도는 2월 4일 오후 2시, 해남문화예술회관에서 ‘행정통합 찾아가는 타운홀미팅(1차)’을 개최한다.
이번 행사는 전남·광주 행정통합을 둘러싼 쟁점과 방향을 놓고 도민과 직접 소통하기 위해 마련된 자리로, 사회자와 참석자 간 대담, 청중 질의응답 중심으로 진행되며 전 과정이 생중계된다.

이날 타운홀미팅에는 전라남도지사와 광주광역시장을 비롯해 목포대학교 교학부총장, 인공지능산업융합사업단장 등이 참석한다.
행정과 산업, 대학과 미래 전략을 대표하는 인사들이 한자리에 모여 행정통합이 지역의 교육·산업·정주 구조에 어떤 변화를 가져올지에 대해 도민들과 직접 대화를 나눌 예정이다.

이번 해남 타운홀미팅은 지난해 해남에서 열렸던 전남·광주 행정통합 도민공청회 이후 이어지는 공식 소통 자리라는 점에서 주목된다.
당시 공청회에서는 행정통합의 필요성에 대한 설명과 함께, 군 단위 지역의 입장에서 통합이 실제 어떤 영향을 미칠지에 대한 질문과 우려가 집중적으로 제기됐다.
통합으로 인한 행정 효율성만이 아니라, 농어촌 지역의 권한과 재정, 정책 우선순위가 어떻게 보장될 것인지에 대한 문제의식이 현장에서 분명히 드러났다.

이번 타운홀미팅은 그러한 문제 제기를 바탕으로 보다 구체적인 질문과 응답이 오가는 자리로 마련됐다.
일방적인 설명이 아닌 공개 대담과 질의응답 형식을 통해, 행정통합이 해남과 같은 군 단위 지역에 어떤 실질적 변화를 가져올 수 있는지에 대한 도민들의 질문이 직접 전달될 예정이다.

참석자들은 행정통합 이후의 행정 구조, AI와 첨단산업 정책의 방향, 지역대학과 청년 정책, 서남권 균형 발전 문제 등을 놓고 다양한 의견을 나눌 것으로 보인다.

전라남도는 도내 주요 시·군을 순회하는 ‘찾아가는 타운홀미팅’을 단계적으로 이어갈 계획이다.
이는 행정통합 논의가 더 이상 선언이나 공청회에 머무르지 않고, 실제 결정 과정에 앞서 도민과의 직접 소통을 강화하겠다는 취지다.

해남에서 열리는 타운홀미팅은 전남·광주 행정통합 논의의 현재 위치를 보여주는 상징적인 장면이 될 전망이다.

Jeonnam–Gwangju Administrative Integration Faces Direct Debate Through a ‘Visiting Town Hall’ in Haenam
Discussions on the administrative integration of Jeonnam Province and Gwangju Metropolitan City have entered a phase of direct engagement with residents.
Moving beyond explanations and public hearings, a full-scale forum for open debate—centered on questions and answers—is now taking shape.
Jeonnam Province will hold the first “Visiting Town Hall Meeting on Administrative Integration” at 2:00 p.m. on February 4 at the Haenam Culture and Arts Center.
The event is designed to enable direct communication with residents on key issues and the overall direction of Jeonnam–Gwangju integration. It will feature moderated dialogue and open Q&A sessions with audience members, and the entire program will be broadcast live.
Attendees will include the Governor of Jeonnam Province, the Mayor of Gwangju Metropolitan City, the Vice President for Academic Affairs of Mokpo National University, and the Director of the Artificial Intelligence Industry Convergence Project Group.
Representatives from government, industry, academia, and future strategy will gather in one place to engage directly with residents on how administrative integration could reshape the region’s education system, industrial structure, and living environment.
The Haenam town hall is drawing particular attention as it marks the first official follow-up dialogue since the Jeonnam–Gwangju Administrative Integration Public Hearing held in Haenam last year.
At that time, beyond explanations of the necessity of integration, many questions and concerns were raised from the perspective of county-level regions about what tangible effects integration would actually bring.
The discussion extended beyond administrative efficiency to deeper concerns about how authority, fiscal resources, and policy priorities for rural and agricultural areas would be protected. These issues were clearly articulated on the ground.
Building on those concerns, this town hall meeting is designed to facilitate more concrete exchanges of questions and answers.
Rather than one-way briefings, the open dialogue and Q&A format will allow residents to directly raise questions about what real changes administrative integration could bring to county-level areas such as Haenam.
Participants are expected to exchange a wide range of views on post-integration governance structures, the direction of AI and advanced industry policies, regional university competitiveness and youth policies, and balanced development across the southwestern region.
Jeonnam Province plans to continue this Visiting Town Hall Meeting series by holding similar sessions across major cities and counties throughout the province.
The initiative reflects an effort to move beyond declarations or formal hearings and to strengthen direct communication with residents ahead of actual decision-making.
The Haenam town hall is expected to serve as a symbolic moment that captures the current stage of Jeonnam–Gwangju administrative integration discussions.
Attention is now focused on how diverse voices on the direction and pace of integration will intersect at the venue—and what answers will ultimately be presented in response to those questions.
