전라남도진도교육지원청(교육장 김 미)은 11월 8일 관내 중학생 및 수학 교사 30명을 대상으로 지역 명소 탐방형 수학융합 프로그램 ‘보배섬 진도 수학 산책(Math-tour)’을 운영했다.

이번 프로그램은 진도의 문화·예술 자원을 수학적 사고와 연결하여 실생활 속 수학의 의미를 탐구하기 위해 마련됐다.

이번 수학 산책은 수학을 중심으로 과학, 역사, 미술 등 다양한 교과를 융합한 형태로 진행되었으며, 학생들은 교실을 벗어나 체험 중심 탐구 활동을 통해 수학의 실용성과 예술적 미감을 직접 느껴보는 기회를 가졌다.

탐방은 쌍계사와 운림산방 두 곳에서 이루어졌다.

쌍계사에서는 단청 무늬 속 대칭성과 테셀레이션(틈 없이 이어지는 무늬), 건축 속 원근법 등을 관찰하며 수학과 예술의 조화를 이해했다.

이어 방문한 운림산방에서는 허련의 화실을 배경으로 한 한옥 구조 분석, 방정식 개념 응용, 사이클로이드 곡선(최단강하선)의 원리 등을 탐구하고, 남종화·북종화·인상주의 화풍을 색채 수학과 연관 지어 분석하는 활동을 진행했다.

프로그램에 참여한 한 학생은 “단청 무늬에서 대칭을 직접 찾으며 수학이 예술과 얼마나 깊이 연결되어 있는지 알게 됐다”라며 “수학 공식이 건축과 그림 속에서 실제로 살아 움직이는 것처럼 느껴졌고, 앞으로 수학이 더 재미있어질 것 같다”고 소감을 말했다.
김 미 교육장은 “이번 수학 산책은 진도의 문화유산을 수학적 시각으로 새롭게 바라보는 소중한 기회였다”며 “앞으로도 지역의 문화·예술 자원을 활용한 융합 교육과정을 확대해 학생 중심 창의학습 문화를 지속적으로 확산하겠다.”고 밝혔다.

“Mathematics Steps Outside the Classroom and Meets Art!”
Jindo Office of Education Operates ‘Treasure Island Jindo Math Walk’
The Jindo Office of Education in Jeollanam-do (Superintendent Kim Mi) operated the Treasure Island Jindo Math Walk (Math-tour) on November 8, targeting 30 local middle school students and mathematics teachers.
The program was designed to help students explore the meaning of mathematics in everyday life by connecting Jindo’s cultural and artistic heritage with mathematical thinking.
The Math Walk integrated mathematics with various subjects such as science, history, and art. By stepping outside the classroom into real-world learning environments, students gained the opportunity to experience both the practical value and artistic beauty of mathematics.
The exploration took place at Ssanggyesa Temple and Unrimsanbang.
At Ssanggyesa, students observed symmetry and tessellation in traditional dancheong patterns and examined perspective techniques used in architectural structures, helping them understand the harmony between mathematics and art.
At Unrimsanbang, students studied the architectural structure of a traditional Hanok and explored the mathematical concepts of equations and the cycloid curve (brachistochrone). They also compared Namjong-hwa, Bukjong-hwa, and Impressionist painting styles, analyzing their color expression from a mathematical perspective.
One participating student shared,
“Finding symmetry in the dancheong patterns made me realize how deeply math is connected to art. It felt like the formulas we learn in textbooks were alive in the buildings and paintings. I didn’t know math could be this fun, and I think I’ll enjoy it even more from now on.”
Superintendent Kim Mi stated,
“This Math Walk provided a meaningful opportunity to view Jindo’s cultural heritage through a mathematical lens,” adding,
“We will continue to expand integrated educational programs that utilize local cultural and artistic resources, fostering a creative and student-centered learning culture.”
