국문학의 비조 고산 윤선도 선생의 정신을 이어온 시조의 고장 해남에서, 한국 시조문학의 전통을 잇는 제18회 해남 전국 시조 백일장 시상식이 지난 11월 8일 오후 2시, 해남문화예술회관 1층 다목적실에서 성황리에 열렸다.

이번 백일장은 해남군이 주최하고 (사)한국문인협회 해남군지부가 주관했으며, 해남군의회·해남교육지원청·(사)해남예총이 후원했다.

전국 각지에서 모인 시조 문학인과 신인 작가 등 200여 명이 참가해 한국 시조문학의 맥을 잇는 뜻깊은 자리를 만들었다.

개회식에서 서정복 (사)한국문인협회 해남군지부장은 환영사를 통해 “언제나 시조의 맥을 이어오고 계신 문인협회 회원님들께 감사드리며, 수상자 여러분 모두에게 축하의 말씀을 전한다.”며 “다가오는 겨울, 여러분의 마음속에도 따뜻한 시조의 온기가 가득하길 바란다.”고 전했다.

이어 명현관 해남군수는 축사에서 “제18회 해남 전국 시조백일장 개최를 진심으로 축하드리며, 오늘 이 자리가 시조의 아름다움과 소중함을 함께 느끼는 뜻깊은 시간이 되길 바란다.”고 말했다.

또한 이성옥 해남군의회 의장은 “참가자 여러분의 빛나는 활약을 응원하며, 이번 대회의 성공적인 개최를 축하드린다.”고 전했다.

김장식 (사)한국예총 해남지회장도 “이번 대회를 통해 해남이 한국 시조문학의 중심지로 더욱 굳건히 자리매김하길 바라며, 참가하신 모든 분들의 건필과 무궁한 발전을 기원한다.”고 축하의 뜻을 전했다.
본선 심사를 거쳐 대상은 박성태 씨의 작품 「아침바다」가 차지했다.

심사위원 유헌 (한국시조시인협회 이사)은 “아침바다는 어선 출항의 자연스러움과 역동적인 새 아침을 희망의 메시지로 던지며, 청각적 이미지가 살아 있는 수작”이라고 평가했다.

박성태 수상자는 “백일장에서 영광을 안기까지 지도해주신 선생님들과 늦깎이 동문들의 격려 덕분”이라며 “이 자리를 마련해주신 문인협회 해남지부 관계자님들께 깊은 감사의 말씀을 드린다.”고 소감을 전했다.

한편, 이번 대회에서는 최우수상에 백양자 씨 외 4명, 우수상과 장려상, 입선 등 총 27명이 수상의 영예를 안았다.

해남 전국 시조 백일장은 고산 윤선도 선생의 시맥을 잇는 전국 규모의 문학행사로, 매년 신인 시조 작가 발굴과 시조문학 저변 확대에 큰 역할을 하고 있다.

“Haenam, the Home of Sijo, Reaffirms Its Place as the Center of Korean Sijo Literature”
― The 18th Haenam National Sijo Writing Contest Held with Great Success ―
The 18th Haenam National Sijo Writing Contest Awards Ceremony was successfully held on November 8 at 2 p.m. in the multi-purpose hall on the first floor of the Haenam Culture and Arts Center, celebrating the continuation of Korea’s traditional poetic form in Haenam, the hometown of Yun Seon-do, the pioneer of Korean classical literature.
The contest was hosted by Haenam County and organized by the Haenam Branch of the Korean Writers’ Association, with support from the Haenam County Council, Haenam Office of Education, and the Haenam Branch of the Korean Federation of Artistic & Cultural Organizations (KFAA).
More than 200 poets and aspiring writers from across the nation participated, making the event a meaningful celebration of the enduring legacy of Korean sijo literature.
In his welcoming remarks, Seo Jeong-bok, President of the Haenam Branch of the Korean Writers’ Association, said,
“I sincerely thank all the association members who continue to carry on the tradition of sijo poetry and congratulate every awardee. As we approach winter, I hope the warmth of sijo poetry fills everyone’s hearts.”
Haenam County Mayor Myung Hyun-gwan, in his congratulatory speech, said,
“I extend my heartfelt congratulations on the 18th Haenam National Sijo Writing Contest. I hope this occasion allows us all to appreciate the beauty and value of sijo poetry together.”
Lee Sung-ok, Chairperson of the Haenam County Council, also offered congratulations, saying,
“I celebrate the successful hosting of this contest and send my support to all participants for their brilliant achievements.”
Kim Jang-sik, President of the Haenam Branch of KFAA, added,
“Through this contest, I hope Haenam will further strengthen its position as the heart of Korean sijo literature, and I wish all participants continued creativity and success.”
After the final judging, the Grand Prize was awarded to Mr. Park Sung-tae for his sijo titled “Morning Sea.”
Judge Yoo Heon, Executive Director of the Korean Sijo Poets Association, commented,
“Morning Sea vividly captures the natural rhythm and dynamic energy of fishing boats setting out at dawn, delivering a hopeful message through its powerful auditory imagery.”
In his acceptance speech, Park Sung-tae said,
“I am deeply grateful to my teachers and fellow students who supported me along the way, and I sincerely thank the Haenam Branch of the Korean Writers’ Association for providing this opportunity.”
Meanwhile, Baek Yang-ja and four others received the Excellence Award, and 27 participants were honored with Merit, Encouragement, and Honorable Mention awards.
The Haenam National Sijo Writing Contest, held annually in the birthplace of the great poet Yun Seon-do, continues to play a vital role in discovering new talents and promoting the cultural heritage of sijo poetry throughout Korea.
