완도해양경찰서(서장 김길규)는 해양을 통한 마약범죄 유입을 사전에 차단하고, 지역 주민과 해양 종사자의 경각심을 높이기 위해 지난 4월부터 10월 말까지 7개월간 집중적인 마약류 범죄 예방활동을 실시했다고 5일 밝혔다.
이번 예방활동은 완도보건소, 완도어선안전조업국, 지역 공동체 등 유관기관과 협력하여 진행되었으며, 총 7회에 걸쳐 165명을 대상으로 현장 중심의 마약류 예방 교육과 홍보활동이 추진됐다.
특히, 내·외국인 선원과 해양 종사자가 쉽게 이해할 수 있도록 마약류 중독 위험성, 종류, 국내 처벌 규정 등을 담은 홍보물을 한국어·영어·베트남어·태국어 4개 국어로 제작해 배포했다.
주요 항포구, 여객선 터미널, 어촌계 사무실 등을 직접 방문하며 안내와 홍보를 병행한 것이 특징이다.
아울러, 완도해경 직원들을 대상으로는 한국마약퇴치운동본부(전남지부) 강사를 초빙하여 마약범죄 정의, 사회적 폐해, 마약 오남용 위험성 등 실질적 교육을 실시함으로써 조직 내 경각심을 강화했다.
완도해양경찰서 관계자는 “해양 종사자들과 직접 소통하며 마약류의 위험성을 알리는 예방활동을 지속해왔다”며, “앞으로도 해양을 통한 마약류 범죄가 발생하지 않도록 적극 노력하겠다.”고 말했다.

Wando Coast Guard Launches Seven-Month Intensive Campaign to Prevent Marine Drug Crimes
Wando Coast Guard (Chief Kim Gil-gyu) announced on November 5 that it conducted a seven-month intensive campaign from April to the end of October to prevent the inflow of drug-related crimes via the sea and to raise awareness among local residents and maritime workers.
The prevention campaign was carried out in cooperation with related organizations, including Wando Public Health Center, Wando Vessel Safety Operations Bureau, and local communities. A total of seven sessions were held, reaching 165 participants through field-centered drug prevention education and outreach activities.
In particular, promotional materials detailing the dangers of drug addiction, types of drugs, and domestic legal penalties were produced and distributed in four languages: Korean, English, Vietnamese, and Thai, ensuring accessibility for both domestic and foreign seafarers and maritime workers.
The campaign included on-site visits to major ports, passenger terminals, and fishing cooperative offices, combining guidance with active promotion.
In addition, Wando Coast Guard personnel received specialized training from instructors of the Korea Anti-Drug Movement Headquarters (Jeonnam Branch), covering the definition of drug crimes, social harms, and the risks of drug misuse, thereby enhancing internal awareness and vigilance.
A Wando Coast Guard official stated, “We have continued preventive activities to directly communicate with maritime workers and raise awareness of the dangers of drugs. We will continue to make every effort to prevent drug crimes via the sea.”
