At the threshold of autumn, a single incense stick burns at Daheungsa Temple in Haenam, and from its smoke, a thousand years of history rise again.
The Chugae Jehwang (Autumn Ancestral Rite)
is not merely a Buddhist ceremony.
It is a ritual that embodies the spirit of Patriotic Buddhism (護國佛敎) —
a reminder that the mind must lead technology, not follow it.
■ “Without a nation, there can be no Dharma” — The Manifesto of Seosan Dasa
When the Imjin War broke out in 1592, the great monk Seosan Dasa (休靜, 1520–1604) issued a proclamation to temples across the land:
“Without a nation, there is no Dharma.
Without the people, there is no compassion of the Buddha.”
His call stirred the mountains.
Fifteen hundred monks rose from temples across the country,

Korea, rising as one of the world’s three AI superpowers, has secured 50,000 of NVIDIA’s 260,000 GPUs for the NPGA (Next-Generation Peaceful Global AI) project centered in Haenam.
But this is not merely an industrial milestone —
it is a philosophical one.
In an age where machines learn faster than men,
we must teach them what only humanity can — conscience.
As the abbot of Daheungsa remarked:
“AI is made by human hands, but compassion is born of the human heart.
When the hand leads, it becomes a tool.
