제34회 초의문화제가 대흥사 호국대전 앞 광장에서 성황리에 마무리됐다.

이번 행사는 해남군 주최, (사)해남다인회 주관, 해남군의회, 대흥사, 차인연합회, 해남다도대학, 해남문화관광재단, 들차회의 후원으로 진행되었으며, 땅끝 해남의 가을 정취 속에서 수많은 방문객이 함께했다.

행사 시작을 알린 길놀이와 굿판을 비롯해 찻자리 경연 및 심사, 유천수 진수식, 어린이 찻자리 시연, 육법공양 시연 등이 펼쳐지며, 차 문화의 정신과 예법을 온몸으로 느낄 수 있는 다채로운 무대가 이어졌다.

특히 어린이들의 섬세한 다도 시연은 관람객들의 큰 호응을 얻으며 해남 차 문화의 밝은 미래를 보여주었다.

정기봉 (사)해남다인회 회장은 인사말에서 “청정 힐링의 보고이며 문화예술이 살아 숨 쉬는 한반도 최남단 해남에서 좋은 기운 받고 아름다운 추억을 남기셨길 바란다.”며 “찾아주신 모든 분께 깊이 감사드린다.”고 전했다.

한편 올해 초의상은, 정인호 (사)한국차인연합회 부회장 겸 교육위원, 유양석 (재)명원문화재단 명원다도대학원장·국민대 명예교수에게 수여되었으며, 두 수상자에게는 각 300만 원의 상금이 전달됐다.

수상자들은 “초의선사의 정신을 잇는 데 더욱 헌신하겠다.”며 감사의 뜻을 밝혔다.

초의문화제는 해남 출신 초의선사의 청정 차 정신과 한국 다도의 품격을 알리는 대표 축제로, 해남의 문화관광 자산으로서 자리매김하고 있다.

“Tea Aroma Fills the Land’s End — 34th Choui Cultural Festival Concludes with Great Success”
“At Daeheungsa Temple, the Spirit of Venerable Choui Unites Tea and Culture”
The 34th Choui Cultural Festival came to a successful close at the plaza in front of the Hoguk Daejeon of Daeheungsa Temple.
Hosted by Haenam-gun and organized by the Haenam Dain Association, the festival was supported by the Haenam County Council, Daeheungsa Temple, the Korean Tea Association, Haenam Tea Etiquette College, Haenam Cultural Tourism Foundation, and Deulcha Association. The event drew numerous visitors who gathered to enjoy the autumn scenery of Korea’s southernmost village, Haenam.
The festival opened with a vibrant gilnori parade and traditional gut performance, followed by a series of programs including a tea table competition, Yucheonsu ritual, children’s tea ceremony demonstration, and Yukbeop gongyang (Buddhist tea offering). The diverse program allowed participants and spectators to experience the spirit, etiquette, and aesthetics of traditional Korean tea culture.
In particular, the children’s tea ceremony performance received an enthusiastic response from the audience, offering a hopeful glimpse into the future of Haenam’s tea culture.
Jeong Gi-bong, President of the Haenam Dain Association, delivered his welcoming remarks, saying,
“Haenam, the land of purity and healing where culture and art are alive and breathing, offers good energy and unforgettable memories. I sincerely thank everyone who joined us for this meaningful festival.”
This year’s Choui Award was presented to Jeong In-ho, Vice President and Education Commissioner of the Korean Tea Association, and Yoo Yang-seok, Director of Myungwon Cultural Foundation and Honorary Professor at Kookmin University. Each awardee received a prize of 3 million KRW. The recipients expressed their gratitude, stating their commitment to carrying on the legacy and spirit of Venerable Choui.
The Choui Cultural Festival honors Venerable Choui, a native of Haenam and a pivotal figure in the history of Korean tea. Today, the festival stands as a signature cultural event and a proud tourism asset of Haenam, celebrating the purity of Korean tea and elevating the dignity of traditional tea culture.
