완도해양경찰서(서장 김길규)는 19일 오전 2시 7분경 전남 완도항 인근 해상에서 10대 남성 A군(18)이 바다에 추락했다는 신고를 접수하고, 단 5분 만에 현장에 도착해 신속히 구조했다고 밝혔다.
완도해경에 따르면 A군은 안벽 인근에서 통화하던 중 발을 헛디뎌 해상으로 추락한 것으로 알려졌다.
추락 직후 A군은 잔교 고정 체인을 붙잡은 채 구조를 기다리고 있었으며, 이 모습을 인근에서 낚시하던 시민이 발견해 즉시 신고했다.
신고를 접수한 완도해경은 완도파출소 연안구조정과 완도구조대를 즉각 현장으로 급파했다.
구조대는 오전 2시 12분경 현장에 도착해 A군을 안전하게 구조했으며, 저체온증 증세를 보인 A군은 인근 병원으로 긴급 이송됐다.
해경 관계자는 “한순간의 방심이 큰 사고로 이어질 수 있는 만큼 야간 해상 활동 시 각별한 주의를 당부한다.”며 “앞으로도 국민의 생명을 최우선 가치로 두고, 지체 없는 구조 활동을 이어가겠다.”고 말했다.

Teen Falls Into Pitch-Black Sea,
Rescued by Wando Coast Guard Within 5 Minutes
The Wando Coast Guard (Chief Kim Gil-gyu) announced that at approximately 2:07 a.m. on the 19th, officers received a report that an 18-year-old male, identified as A, had fallen into the sea near Wando Port in Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do. The Coast Guard arrived on the scene within just five minutes and successfully carried out a swift rescue.
According to the Wando Coast Guard, A fell into the water after losing his footing while talking on the phone near the quay wall.
Immediately after the fall, A held onto a pier’s mooring chain as he awaited help. A nearby citizen who had been fishing witnessed the scene and promptly reported it to authorities.
Upon receiving the call, the Wando Coast Guard immediately dispatched a coastal rescue boat from the Wando Police Station along with a rescue team. The responders arrived at approximately 2:12 a.m., safely pulled A from the water, and transported him to a nearby hospital after he showed symptoms of hypothermia.
A Coast Guard official stated, “A moment of carelessness can lead to a serious accident, especially at night. We urge everyone to exercise extreme caution during nighttime activities near the sea.” The official added, “We will continue to prioritize the lives and safety of our citizens and respond without delay to all emergency situations.”
