진도 고속철도 추진위원회가 지난 9월 19일부터 21일까지 열린 명량대첩축제에서 고속철도 유치를 위한 홍보와 서명운동을 펼쳤다.

위원회는 목포역에서 진도항까지 연결되는 고속철도를 국가 계획에 반영하기 위해 진도군 기관·사회단체가 모여 구성됐다.

축제 현장 부스에서는 건설 필요성과 기대효과를 알리는 안내판과 책자를 배포하며 서명운동을 진행했다.

또한 진도교육지원청과 한국예술문화단체총연합회 진도지회 후원, 진도군과 한국문인협회 진도지부 주관으로 ‘학생 백일장 대회’가 열려 지역 초·중·고 학생 210명이 ‘내가 꿈꾸는 진도의 미래, 고속철도가 열어갈 희망’을 주제로 글짓기와 그림 그리기에 참여했다.

위원회 관계자는 “이번 행사를 통해 명량대첩의 역사적 의미를 되새기고 진도의 새로운 도약을 위한 고속철도 건설 필요성을 알릴 수 있었다”며, “학생 백일장 대회는 미래세대의 지역 발전 희망을 표현하는 뜻깊은 시간이었다.”고 밝혔다.

진도군 건설과 관계자는 “지방 소멸 위기 극복과 지역경제 활성화를 위해서는 교통 접근성 개선이 필수적이며, 이를 위해 진도 고속철도 건설이 국가 계획에 반영돼야 한다.”고 강조했다.

‘Jindo High-Speed Rail Promotion Committee’ Conducts Publicity and Petition Drive at the Battle of Myeongnyang Festival
The Jindo High-Speed Rail Promotion Committee carried out publicity activities and a petition drive to support the construction of a high-speed rail line during the Battle of Myeongnyang Festival, held from September 19 to 21.
The committee was established by local government agencies and civic groups in Jindo County to advocate for the inclusion of a high-speed rail line connecting Mokpo Station and Jindo Port in the national development plan.
At the festival, the committee set up a booth displaying information boards and distributing pamphlets to highlight the necessity and expected benefits of the high-speed rail project, while collecting signatures in support of it.
Additionally, the Jindo Office of Education and the Jindo branch of the Korea Federation of Artistic and Cultural Organizations sponsored a ‘Student Essay and Drawing Contest,’ hosted by Jindo County and the Jindo branch of the Korean Writers’ Association. A total of 210 elementary, middle, and high school students participated, expressing their visions under the theme, “The Future of Jindo I Dream of, and the Hope Opened by High-Speed Rail.”
A committee official stated, “This event served as an opportunity to reflect on the historical significance of the Battle of Myeongnyang and to raise awareness of the need for high-speed rail to support Jindo’s new leap forward. The student contest provided a meaningful chance for the next generation to express their hopes for regional development.”
A Jindo County construction official emphasized, “Improving transportation accessibility is essential to overcoming the risk of local depopulation and revitalizing the regional economy. For this reason, it is crucial that the Jindo High-Speed Rail project be included in the national development plan.”
