전라남도와 해남군, 진도군이 공동 주최하고 (재)전라남도 관광재단이 주관하는 2025 명량대첩축제가 19일 해남 우수영 관광지 일원에서 힘차게 막을 올렸다.
개막 첫날, 해남·진도 군민 1,200여명이 참여한 진도대교 출정 퍼레이드가 웅장한 장관을 연출하며 축제의 서막을 열었다.
이어 열린 개막식에서는 판옥선 출정 퍼포먼스와 함께, 최첨단 디지털 융·복합 기술이 총동원된 해상 전투 재현 공연이 펼쳐져 관람객들의 시선을 단숨에 사로잡았다.
아크로바틱과 화려한 불꽃, 첨단 ICT가 어우러진 무대는 마치 427년 전 그날의 바다 한복판에 서 있는 듯한 전율을 선사했다.
개막식 이후 열린 축하 무대에서는 대한민국 최고의 가창력으로 꼽히는 소향과 뮤지컬 스타 김준수가 출연해 울돌목의 밤을 더욱 뜨겁게 달궜으며, 이어진 불꽃놀이가 가을 하늘을 화려하게 수놓았다.
주말에도 축제는 쉼 없이 이어진다.
우수영 명량무대와 성문광장에서는 온 겨레 강강술래 대회, 전국 청소년 트로트 가요제, 케이팝 랜덤플레이, 버블·매직쇼 등 남녀노소 모두 즐길 수 있는 다채로운 공연이 준비되어 있다.
또한 명량 하늘놀이터, 수문장 교대식, 이순신 밥상 체험, 장군복 체험, 포토존 등 참여형 체험 프로그램이 풍성하게 마련돼 가족 단위 관광객들의 발걸음을 붙잡는다.
울돌목 해상을 가로지르는 명량 해상케이블카와 회오리 바다 위를 걸을 수 있는 울돌목스카이워크에는 하루 종일 관광객들의 행렬이 이어지며 축제의 열기를 더했다.
명량대첩축제는 1597년 정유재란 당시, 단 13척의 조선 수군으로 133척의 왜선을 물리친 ‘명량대첩’을 기리기 위한 역사·문화축제다. 호국의 정신과 민초들의 기개를 담아 매년 가을, 승전지 울돌목에서 펼쳐지며 대한민국 대표 역사 축제로 자리매김하고 있다.
명현관 해남군수는 “올해 명량대첩축제는 최첨단 기술이 결합된 신선한 무대와 세계적인 인기의 K-컬처 콘텐츠가 함께 어우러져 새로운 감동을 선사한다.”며, “가을의 시작은 해남에서, 명량의 함성과 함께 하시길 바란다.”고 전했다.
2025 명량대첩축제는 오는 21일까지 울돌목에서 계속된다.

The Beginning of Autumn, the Echo of Myeongnyang!
Haenam–Jindo Uldolmok, Grand Opening of the Myeongnyang Victory Festival
“Immortal Myeongnyang! Patriotic Uldolmok!”
The roar of Uldolmok, which opens the door to autumn, has once again echoed across the sea.
Jointly hosted by Jeollanam-do Province, Haenam County, and Jindo County, and organized by the Jeollanam-do Tourism Foundation, the 2025 Myeongnyang Victory Festival kicked off on September 19 at Uldolmok in Haenam’s Usuyeong tourist area.
On the first day, the grand Jindo Bridge Departure Parade involving more than 1,200 residents from Haenam and Jindo created a majestic spectacle, marking the beginning of the festival.
The opening ceremony featured a panokseon (Korean warship) departure performance, followed by a cutting-edge digital convergence naval battle reenactment that captivated the audience. With acrobatics, dazzling fireworks, and advanced ICT technology, the performance gave spectators a thrilling sense of being transported back 427 years to the very heart of the historic naval battle.
After the ceremony, a celebratory concert featured world-class vocalist So Hyang and musical star Kim Junsu, igniting the night atmosphere of Uldolmok, while fireworks lit up the autumn sky with brilliance.
The excitement continues throughout the weekend. At Usuyeong’s Myeongnyang Stage and Seongmun Square, programs such as the National Ganggangsullae Dance Contest, National Youth Trot Song Festival, K-pop Random Play, and Bubble & Magic Shows offer entertainment for all ages.
In addition, hands-on experiences such as the Myeongnyang Sky Playground, Royal Guard Changing Ceremony, Admiral Yi Sun-sin’s Table, General’s Armor Experience, and Photo Zones provide memorable activities for families and visitors.
Tourists also flocked to the Myeongnyang Marine Cable Car and the Uldolmok Skywalk, where they could walk over the swirling currents of Uldolmok, further adding to the festival’s vibrant energy.
The Myeongnyang Victory Festival commemorates Admiral Yi Sun-sin’s legendary Battle of Myeongnyang in 1597, during the Japanese invasions of Korea, where he triumphed with only 13 ships against 133 enemy vessels. As Korea’s representative historical and cultural festival, it celebrates the spirit of patriotism and the courage of the people, held every autumn at the actual victory site in Uldolmok.
Haenam County Governor Myung Hyun-gwan remarked, “This year’s festival presents fresh spectacles with cutting-edge technology and globally loved K-culture content, offering new inspiration. We invite everyone to begin the autumn season in Haenam, together with the resounding spirit of Myeongnyang.”
The 2025 Myeongnyang Victory Festival continues at Uldolmok until September 21.
