완도소방서(서장 이민석)는 주택용 소방시설이 초기 화재 대응에 실질적인 효과를 거두고 있다며, 관내 가정과 영업장에 설치를 적극 독려하고 나섰다.
주택용 소방시설은 화재 발생 시 신속히 진압할 수 있는 소화기와 연기를 감지해 경보음을 울리는 단독 경보형 감지기로 구성되며, 「화재예방, 소방시설 설치·유지 및 안전관리에 관한 법률」에 따라 모든 주택에 설치가 의무화돼 있다.
지난 6월 완도읍 농공단지 내 한 건물에서는 전기보일러 화재가 발생했으나 관계인이 비치된 소화기로 신속히 진화, 대형 피해를 막은 사례가 있었다.
완도소방서는 특히 추석 연휴 기간 장시간 부재와 가족 단위 이동으로 화재 위험이 높아지는 만큼, 소화기와 단독 경보형 감지기를 가족과 지인에게 선물하듯 설치할 것을 권장했다.
이민석 서장은 “주택용 소방시설은 생명과 재산을 지키는 가장 기본적 수단이며, 초기 대응이 피해 규모를 좌우한다.”면서 “올 추석에는 안전을 선물하는 마음으로 주택용 소방시설을 꼭 갖춰 달라”고 당부했다.

Wando Fire Station (Chief Lee Min-seok) is actively encouraging households and businesses in the area to install residential fire safety equipment, highlighting its proven effectiveness in early fire response.
Residential fire safety equipment consists of fire extinguishers, which allow for rapid suppression of fires, and standalone smoke detectors that sound an alarm when smoke is detected. Installation of these devices is mandatory for all homes under the “Act on Fire Prevention, Installation, Maintenance, and Safety Management of Fire-Fighting Facilities.”
In June, a fire broke out in an electric boiler installed on the exterior wall of a building in Wando-eup Industrial Complex. Fortunately, personnel on site quickly used a fire extinguisher to put out the flames, preventing potentially extensive damage.
With the Chuseok holiday approaching, when homes are often left unattended for long periods and families travel, the fire station emphasizes the importance of installing fire extinguishers and standalone smoke detectors—encouraging residents to “gift safety” to their families and friends.
Chief Lee stated, “Residential fire safety equipment is the most basic and reliable means of protecting lives and property, and early response determines the scale of damage. This Chuseok, we urge everyone to equip their homes with fire safety devices as a gift of safety to loved ones.”
