진도군 옥주골 창작소가 ‘2025 전라남도 폐현수막 재활용 전략사업’에 참여하며 주민과 함께 생활 속 환경오염 줄이기에 나섰다.
이 사업은 사용 후 버려지는 폐현수막을 수거해 세척·건조 후 업사이클링 작품으로 재탄생시키는 프로그램으로, 작가들이 주민과 함께 대형 마대, 줍줍 주머니, 그늘막 등 다양한 제품을 제작하고 있다.
올해는 장은선 작가와 임현호 작가가 주민 대상 공예 수업과 캠페인을 진행하며, 고군면 가계해변에서 ‘비치코밍 캠페인’도 펼친다.
참여 주민에게는 폐플라스틱 병뚜껑으로 만든 키링을 증정한다.
지난해에는 그림대회, 정크아트 전시 등으로 주민 참여를 확대했고, 그림이 그려진 우산은 7개 면사무소에 공유 우산으로 비치되어 누구나 활용할 수 있다.
옥주골 창작소는 11월 한 달간 업사이클링 작품 전시를 계획하며, 참여를 원하는 주민은 작가로서 활동 기회를 얻을 수 있다.
진도군 관계자는 “옥주골 창작소가 주민과 소통하며 환경보호와 문화예술 확산의 중심이 될 수 있도록 지속 지원하겠다.”고 밝혔다.

Jindo’s Okjugol Creative Studio Leads Environmental Protection through Recycled Banners
Jindo County’s Okjugol Creative Studio is participating in the “2025 Jeollanam-do Waste Banner Recycling Strategy Project,” engaging residents in efforts to reduce environmental pollution in daily life.
This project collects used banners, cleans and dries them, and transforms them into upcycled artworks. Local artists work with residents to create various products, including large sacks, “jup-jup” (pickup) bags, and sunshades.
This year, artists Eun-seon Jang and Hyun-ho Lim are conducting craft classes and campaigns for residents, and a “beachcombing campaign” will be held at Gage Beach in Gogeun-myeon.
Residents participating in the program will receive keyrings made from recycled plastic bottle caps.
Last year, the project expanded resident participation through umbrella painting contests and junk art exhibitions. The painted umbrellas were shared across seven township offices in Jindo, allowing anyone to use them as community umbrellas.
Okjugol Creative Studio plans to exhibit upcycled artworks throughout November, offering residents the opportunity to participate as local artists.
A Jindo County official stated, “Okjugol Creative Studio continues to engage with residents and serve as a hub for environmental protection and the promotion of culture and the arts. We will provide ongoing support to ensure its success.”
