그들의 구호는 간결하다. “고인물은 썩는다. 흐르게 해야 한다.” 이 말은 민주당이 호남에서 구축해온 독점적 지위를 정면으로 겨냥한다.

호남은 오랫동안 민주당의 정치적 텃밭이었다.
그러나 민주당이 호남을 대하는 방식은 늘 이중적이었다. 한편에서는 ‘호남 발전특위’라는 이름으로 민심을 달래면서도, 다른 한편에서는 “호남 홀대론”이 끊임없이 반복됐다.

결과적으로 남은 것은 지역민의 상실감과 “우리를 이용만 한다.”는 불신뿐이다.

더 심각한 문제는 개혁에 대한 민주당의 태도다.
국민은 다수 의석과 행정권을 민주당에 맡기며 적폐 청산과 개혁을 요구했다.
그러나 민주당은 권력을 쥔 순간, “개혁을 밀어붙이면 역효과가 난다”는 자기 합리화에 빠졌다.
그 사이 친일 청산은 표류했고, 내란 책임자 단죄는 흐지부지됐다.

국민의힘 해산 문제 역시 법적 근거가 충분함에도, 민주당은 결단을 내리지 못한 채 ‘정치적 계산’만 되풀이 하고 있다.

국민의 기대와 분노가 어디로 향할 수밖에 없는지는 불을 보듯 뻔하다.
민주당은 착각하고 있다.

국민이 민주당을 좋아서 지지한 적은 없다.
단지 국민의힘을 선택할 수 없었기 때문에 민주당이 반사이익을 누려왔을 뿐이다.

그런데 민주당은 이를 ‘호남의 맹주’라는 정치적 기득권으로 오해하며 스스로를 안위했다.

그러나 민심은 이미 등을 돌리고 있다. 내부 당원조차 민주당을 향한 불만을 숨기지 않는다.

이런 상황에서 조국혁신당을 향한 비난은 민주당의 자멸을 재촉할 뿐이다.

민주당이 조국혁신당을 두려워하지 않으려면, 말뿐인 ‘개혁’이 아니라 정권과 적폐를 끝까지 흔드는 결단을 보여야 한다.

그것이 없다면 민주당은 더 이상 호남 민심을 붙잡을 수 없다.

호남 유권자들 역시 변해야 한다.
특정 정당이 ‘맹주’라는 환상은 민주주의를 마비시킨다.

민주당과 조국혁신당은 절대 합당해서는 안 된다.
경쟁해야 한다.
경쟁만이 긴장을 만들고, 긴장만이 개혁을 낳는다.
호남 정치가 살아 숨 쉬는 길은 바로 이 길뿐이다.

Honam politics must face the end of the Democratic Party’s monopoly.
The Cho Kuk Innovation Party has declared its intent: “We will field candidates in every election.”
Their slogan is simple yet sharp: “Stagnant water rots. It must flow.” This is a direct challenge to the Democratic Party’s entrenched dominance in Honam.
For decades, Honam has been the Democratic Party’s stronghold.
Yet the party’s attitude toward the region has always been double-sided. On the one hand, it pacifies voters with gestures like the so-called “Honam Development Committee.” On the other hand, the rhetoric of “Honam neglect” keeps recurring.
What remains is a sense of betrayal and the widespread belief among locals that they are merely being used.
More troubling still is the Democratic Party’s stance on reform.
The people entrusted the party with a parliamentary majority and executive power, demanding the clearing out of old evils and genuine reform.
But once in power, the party retreated into self-justification—claiming that pushing reforms too hard would “backfire.”
As a result, the reckoning with pro-Japanese collaborators has stalled, and accountability for past military coups and treasonous acts has all but evaporated.
Even the dissolution of the People Power Party—a measure with sufficient legal grounds—has been delayed endlessly, sacrificed to political calculation.
It is obvious where public anger and expectations will turn.
The Democratic Party is deluding itself.
The public never supported the party out of love.
They supported it only because the alternative—the People Power Party—was unacceptable.
The Democratic Party mistook this reluctant support for a political birthright, styling itself as the unchallenged “hegemon of Honam.”
But public sentiment has already shifted away. Even its own members openly voice dissatisfaction.
In this context, attacking the Cho Kuk Innovation Party will only hasten the Democratic Party’s decline.
If the Democratic Party truly wishes not to fear Cho Kuk’s challenge, it must prove it can wield power with resolve—not empty rhetoric. It must carry reform through to the end, confronting entrenched forces head-on.
Without this, it will no longer hold the loyalty of Honam voters.
And Honam’s electorate, too, must change.
The illusion of a single party’s eternal hegemony paralyzes democracy.
The Democratic Party and the Cho Kuk Innovation Party must never merge.
They must compete.
Only competition breeds tension, and only tension produces reform.
That is the only path by which Honam politics can breathe and live again.
