진도군 쉬미항 앞바다에서 표류하던 낚시꾼 2명이 진도경찰서(서장 임진영)와 지역 어민의 신속한 협력으로 무사히 구조됐다.

사건은 최근 오후, 한 주민이 산책 중 바다에서 들려온 “살려달라”는 외침을 듣고 112에 신고하면서 시작됐다.

신고를 접수한 진도경찰은 즉시 소방서와 해경에 공조를 요청했으나, 해경의 현장 도착이 다소 지연되자 읍내파출소 경찰관들이 직접 민간 어선의 협조를 받아 현장으로 출동했다.

사고 지점은 쉬미항 선착장에서 약 300m 떨어진 해상으로, 낚시 중 엔진 고장으로 표류하던 중 파도에 밀려 한 명이 바다에 빠지며 위험한 상황이 벌어졌다.

민·경 합동 구조대는 흔들리는 어선에 접근해 2명을 전원 구조했으며, 구조 직후 저체온증 증세를 보인 이들은 진도한국병원으로 이송되어 치료를 받고 있다.

진도경찰서는 “신속한 신고와 지역 어민의 협조 덕분에 인명 피해를 막을 수 있었다.”며 “경찰관 미배치 도서 지역의 해상 사고에 대비해 민간 어선과 협력하는 ‘112단박선’을 운영 중이며, 유사시 즉각 투입 가능한 대응 체계를 강화하겠다.”고 밝혔다.

한편 경찰은 구조에 기여한 어민에게 감사장을 전달할 예정이다.

이번 사례는 진도군 지역사회가 구축한 ‘민·관·경 안전 협력망’이 실질적인 생명 구조로 이어진 모범 사례로 평가받고 있다.

Jindo Police Rescue Two Drifting Anglers Through Swift Civil–Government–Police Cooperation
― Emergency deployment of “112 Danbakseon” highlights rapid on-site response system ―
Two anglers who had been drifting off the coast near Simi Port in Jindo-gun were safely rescued thanks to the prompt cooperation between the Jindo Police Station (Chief Lim Jin-young) and local fishermen.
The incident occurred in the afternoon when a local resident, while taking a walk, heard cries for help from the sea and immediately called 112.
Upon receiving the report, Jindo Police quickly requested support from the fire department and the Coast Guard. However, as the Coast Guard’s arrival was delayed, officers from the Eupnae Police Substation promptly boarded a private fishing boat provided by local fishermen and headed to the scene.
The accident site was about 300 meters from Simi Port. The victims had been fishing when their boat engine failed and drifted out to sea. One of them fell into the water amid rough waves, putting both in grave danger.
The joint civil–police rescue team successfully approached the swaying boat and rescued both men. They were immediately transported to Jindo Korean Hospital after showing symptoms of hypothermia.
A Jindo Police official stated, “Thanks to the quick report and cooperation of local fishermen, we were able to prevent a loss of life,” adding, “We are operating the ‘112 Danbakseon’—a rapid-response cooperative vessel system for emergencies in island areas without stationed police officers—and will continue to strengthen our readiness for swift deployment.”
Meanwhile, the police plan to present a certificate of appreciation to the fisherman who assisted in the rescue.
This case is being recognized as an exemplary example of how Jindo County’s civil–government–police safety cooperation network can translate into real-world life-saving results.
