전라남도해남교육지원청(교육장 조연주)은 함께하는 지역공동체 문화를 확산하기 위해 10월 28일 삼산초등학교, 11월 11일 화산초등학교와 화산중학교에서 열린 ‘사랑의 아침밥 나눔’ 행사에 참여했다.

이번 행사는 누가 삼산면과 화산면 주민자치회가 무엇을 주관하여 왜 학생들의 건강과 학습 의욕을 높이기 위해 마련된 조식 나눔 활동이다.

삼산초등학교에서는 매주 화요일마다 지역 어르신들이 정성껏 준비한 볶음밥, 만두, 귤, 물을 학생들에게 무료로 제공했다.

학생들은 따뜻한 한 끼로 든든한 하루를 시작했으며, 다음 주에는 김밥 아침밥이 제공될 예정이라는 소식도 전해졌다.

삼산면 주민자치회는 학교 영양사와 협력해 식단을 조율하고, 교직원의 부담을 줄이기 위해 회원들이 자원봉사 형태로 돌아가며 참여하고 있다.

삼산초 학부모회 관계자는 “아침밥을 먹고 수업에 집중하는 아이들의 모습이 뿌듯하다”며 “건강하게 자라길 바란다.”고 말했다.

화산초등학교와 화산중학교는 매주 화요일을 ‘화화밥날(화요일은 화산면 아침밥 먹는 날)’로 정해 운영 중이다.

‘꽃메 할머니들’로 불리는 지역 어르신들이 손주를 위해 차린 정성 어린 음식은 2023년부터 시작돼 올해로 3년째를 맞이했으며, 100회를 돌파했다.

이 활동은 단순한 식사 제공을 넘어 세대 간의 정과 사랑을 나누는 공동체 중심의 교육으로 자리 잡았다.

또한 화산면의 ‘꽃메 분식집’은 학생들의 의견을 반영해 만들어진 공간으로, 이곳의 일부 수익금은 학생 장학금으로 기탁되고 있다.

마을 어르신들의 손끝에서 만들어진 음식은 ‘마을이 함께 아이를 키우는 교육’의 상징이 되었으며, 아이들은 자연스럽게 나눔과 책임의 가치를 배워가고 있다.

조연주 해남교육지원청 교육장은 “사랑의 아침밥 운영을 통해 지역 전체가 함께 아이들의 건강한 미래를 만들어 가길 바란다.”며, “함께하는 지역공동체로 미래를 여는 해남교육을 실현하겠다.”고 밝혔다.

“A Village-Shared Breakfast, Blooming Smiles of Children”
Haenam Office of Education Practices Community-Based Education through the ‘Breakfast of Love’ Campaign
The Haenam Office of Education (Director Cho Yeon-joo) participated in the “Breakfast of Love Sharing” events held at Samsan Elementary School on October 28 and at Hwasan Elementary and Middle Schools on November 11, as part of its initiative to foster a collaborative local community.
The event was organized by the Samsan and Hwasan Residents’ Councils, with the goal of promoting students’ health and learning motivation through a community-led breakfast sharing program.
At Samsan Elementary School, local senior residents prepare and provide breakfast every Tuesday free of charge. On this day, students enjoyed fried rice, dumplings, tangerines, and water, starting their day with a warm and nutritious meal. It was also announced that gimbap would be served the following week.
The Samsan Residents’ Council works in cooperation with the school’s nutritionist to plan menus and reduce teachers’ workload, with members volunteering on a rotational basis. A representative of the Samsan Elementary Parents’ Association said, “It’s heartwarming to see our children focusing better in class after eating breakfast. We hope they continue to grow up healthy.”
At Hwasan Elementary and Middle Schools, every Tuesday is designated as “HwaHwa Meal Day” (an abbreviation meaning “Hwasan Tuesday Breakfast Day”). The event, lovingly prepared by local grandmothers known as the “Kkotmae Grandmas,” began in 2023 and is now in its third year, having surpassed 100 sessions.
This initiative has become more than just a meal service — it embodies a community-based education model that nurtures affection and solidarity between generations.
In addition, “Kkotmae Snack Bar,” a small eatery established in response to students’ wishes for a snack shop in the village, donates part of its profits to a student scholarship fund. The meals prepared by the elders symbolize the spirit of “raising children together as a community,” teaching students the values of sharing, gratitude, and responsibility in everyday life.
Director Cho Yeon-joo of the Haenam Office of Education stated, “Through the ‘Breakfast of Love’ initiative, I hope our entire community will come together to build a healthy and hopeful future for our children. Haenam Education will continue to realize a future opened through community collaboration.”
