완도해경, 2025년 연안안전지킴이 활동 마무리.. 지역민과 함깨한 해양안전망 구축

완도해양경찰서(서장 김길규)는 올해 4월부터 10월까지 운영한 ‘연안안전지킴이’ 활동을 성공적으로 마무리했다고 5일 밝혔다.

‘연안안전지킴이’ 제도는 지역 해역의 특성을 잘 아는 지역 주민이 직접 참여해 해양경찰과 함께 연안 사고를 예방하는 참여형 안전 프로그램으로, 매년 연안 지역의 안전 확보에 중요한 역할을 하고 있다.

올해 완도해경은 완도항, 땅끝항, 마량항 등 3개소에 총 6명의 지킴이를 2인 1조로 배치, 정기 순찰과 안전 계도활동을 꾸준히 이어왔다.

활동기간 동안 지킴이들은 연안 곳곳을 돌며 1,188건의 사고 예방 활동과 1,910건의 안전시설물 점검을 실시했다.

특히 여름철 관광객이 집중되는 해수욕장·방파제 등 사고 위험 지역에서 순찰을 강화하며 해양사고 예방에 큰 힘을 보탰다.

김길규 완도해양경찰서장은 “지역 주민이 함께한 연안안전지킴이들의 헌신이 연안사고 예방에 큰 도움이 됐다”며 “앞으로도 지역사회와 협력해 더 안전한 해양환경을 만드는 데 최선을 다하겠다.”고 말했다.

“A Sea Safety Network Protected by Residents!” Wando Coast Guard Successfully Concludes ‘Coastal Safety Keeper’ Program
The Wando Coast Guard (Chief Kim Gil-gyu) announced on the 5th that it has successfully completed the ‘Coastal Safety Keeper’ program, which operated from April to October this year.
The Coastal Safety Keeper initiative is a community-based safety program in which local residents, who are well acquainted with the characteristics of their coastal areas, work together with the Coast Guard to prevent maritime accidents. The program has played a vital role each year in ensuring safety along the coastal regions.
This year, the Wando Coast Guard assigned six safety keepers in teams of two across three major locations — Wando Port, Ttangkkeut Port, and Maryang Port — to conduct regular patrols and public safety campaigns.
During the activity period, the keepers carried out 1,188 accident prevention efforts and inspected 1,910 safety facilities throughout the coastline. In particular, they intensified patrols in high-risk areas such as beaches and breakwaters during the summer season, when tourist numbers are at their peak, significantly contributing to the prevention of maritime accidents.
Chief Kim Gil-gyu of the Wando Coast Guard stated, “The dedication of the Coastal Safety Keepers, who worked hand in hand with local communities, has greatly contributed to preventing coastal accidents,” adding, “We will continue to strengthen our cooperation with residents to build a safer and more secure marine environment.”
