전라남도해남교육지원청(교육장 조연주)은 10월 25일(토) 해남군 일원에서 ‘2025 해남농산어촌유학 어울림 한마당’ 1일차 행사를 성황리에 개최했다.

이번 행사는 농산어촌 유학생과 학부모, 교직원, 해남군 관계자 등 60여 명이 함께 참여해 해남의 자연과 문화를 체험하며 마을 중심 교육공동체의 의미를 되새기는 뜻 깊은 시간으로 마련되었다.

현재 해남지역에는 초등학교 4곳과 중학교 3곳 등 총 7개 학교에서 38가구 60명의 농산어촌 유학생이 생활하고 있다.

이들은 지역 학생들과 함께 배우며 ‘마을 속 학교’ 모델을 실천하고 있으며, 특히 현산초·북일초·마산초 등에서는 가족 체류형 유학이 활발히 운영되고 있다.

1일차 프로그램은 ‘해남의 자연을 알아보기’를 주제로 진행됐다.

참가자들은 대흥사 탐방을 시작으로 산이정원, 우수영 관광단지, 해남공룡박물관 등을 둘러보며 해남의 생태·문화적 가치를 직접 체험했다.

산이정원에서는 식물과 정원의 생태적 의미를 배우며 자연의 소중함을 느꼈고, 공룡박물관에서는 과거 생태 환경과 과학적 탐구의 즐거움을 경험했다.

현산초 한 학생은 “도시에서는 느낄 수 없는 자연의 소리와 냄새를 직접 경험하니 공부가 더 재미있어졌어요.”라고 소감을 전했으며, 북일초 6학년 학생은 “해남에 와서 친구들과 마을 어르신들이 반겨주셔서 이제는 제2의 고향처럼 느껴져요.”라고 말했다.

함께한 학부모들은 “아이들이 자연 속에서 배우며 마음이 한결 여유로워졌고, 마을 분들과 어울리며 진짜 교육의 의미를 느꼈다”며 만족감을 드러냈다.

조연주 해남교육장은 “해남 농산어촌유학은 아이 한 명을 마을이 함께 품는 교육이며, 이번 어울림 한마당은 그 따뜻한 공동체 정신을 확인하는 자리였다.”며 “아이들이 자연과 사람 속에서 배우며 성장하는 해남교육의 가치가 앞으로도 더욱 넓게 퍼지길 바란다.”고 전했다.

“A Village Raising a Child”
Haenam Office of Education Holds Successful ‘Rural Study Abroad Harmony Festival’
– Experiencing Nature and Culture to Rediscover the Meaning of Educational Community –
The Jeollanam-do Haenam Office of Education (Director Cho Yeon-joo) successfully hosted the first-day event of the “2025 Haenam Rural Study Abroad Harmony Festival” on Saturday, October 25, across various locations in Haenam County.
The event brought together about 60 participants, including students studying in rural areas, their parents, teachers, and Haenam County officials. Together, they experienced Haenam’s rich nature and culture, reflecting on the value of education rooted in the local community.
Currently, seven schools in Haenam—four elementary and three middle schools—are participating in the rural study abroad program, accommodating 60 students from 38 families. These students learn alongside local children, realizing the model of a “village-based school.” In particular, family-stay programs are actively operated at Hyunsan Elementary, Bukil Elementary, and Masan Elementary Schools.
The first day’s program, themed “Discovering the Nature of Haenam,” began with a visit to Daeheungsa Temple, followed by tours of Sani Garden, the Usuyeong Tourism Complex, and the Haenam Dinosaur Museum. Through these experiences, participants explored the ecological and cultural richness of the region.
At Sani Garden, they learned about the ecological importance of plants and gardens, appreciating the value of nature. At the Dinosaur Museum, they gained insight into the ancient ecosystem and developed curiosity about scientific exploration.
A student from Hyunsan Elementary said with a bright smile, “It’s so much fun to study after hearing and smelling the sounds and scents of nature, which I could never experience in the city.”
Another sixth-grade student from Bukil Elementary added, “The people in Haenam welcomed us so warmly that it now feels like my second hometown.”
Parents who joined the program shared similar sentiments, saying, “Our children have become more relaxed and happy learning in nature, and we’ve felt the true meaning of education while connecting with the villagers.”
Director Cho Yeon-joo remarked, “Haenam’s rural study abroad program represents an education where an entire village helps raise a single child. This Harmony Festival reaffirmed that warm spirit of community.” She added, “We hope the values of Haenam’s education—learning and growing within nature and among people—will continue to spread far and wide.”
