희망과 자비의 찻 물, 마음을 데우다

차 향기 가득한 가을날, 대흥사에 온기와 자비가 어우러진 뜻깊은 행사가 열렸다.

대한불교조계종 대흥사가 주최·주관하고 문화체육관광부와 대한불교조계종 총무원이 후원한 ‘희망 나눔 들차회’가 대흥사 경내에서 성황리에 개최됐다.

이번 들차회는 초의선사의 차 정신을 현대적으로 계승하고, 차를 매개로 국민 모두가 하나 되는 화합과 나눔의 장으로 마련됐다.

선차수행체험과 희망 나눔 들차회, 달 항아리와 차 도구 전시회(다암) 등 다채로운 프로그램이 펼쳐지며, 대흥사 경내는 향기로운 차와 따스한 미소로 가득 찼다.

특히 광주·목포·강진·영암·나주·해남 다도대학 등 전국 각지에서 참여한 30여 팀이 함께하며, 초의선사의 차 정신을 이어가는 마음으로 행사에 생기를 더했다.

참가자들은 각자의 차향을 나누고, 다례와 예법 속에서 서로의 마음을 보듬으며 ‘함께하는 아름다움’을 되새겼다.

차 한 잔을 나누며 마음을 비우는 선차수행 체험에서는 “찻물이 몸을 데우고 온기가 스며들 때, 시름이 사라지고 자연과 하나 되는 평화”를 느꼈다는 참가자들의 소감이 이어졌다.

가을 단풍 빛이 물든 대흥사의 마당은 고요와 햇살이 어우러져 마치 한 폭의 수묵화처럼, 걷는 이들의 발걸음마다 차 향기가 머물렀다.

대흥사 주지 법상스님은 “이번 들차회는 초의스님의 숭고한 차 사상과 자비의 마음을 함께 나누는 자리”라며 “이 자리를 빛내주신 신도들과 초의차 보존회 모든 분들께 깊이 감사드린다.”고 전했다.

이어 “걷는 길 사이에서 차를 음미하시는 모든 분들이 나눈 만큼 큰 복을 받아 가시길 바란다.”고 덧붙였다.

초의차 보존회 이영미 회장은 “참가해 주신 모든 분들께 진심으로 감사드린다.”며 “오가시는 발걸음마다 차 한 잔의 온기가 마음을 감싸 안는 시간이 되길 바란다.”고 전했다.

이번 행사는 ‘차를 통해 마음을 비우고, 나를 찾는 시간’이라는 주제로 진행되며, 참가자들에게 삶의 쉼표와 깊은 울림을 선사했다.

찻잔 속에서 피어오른 향기처럼, 그 따스한 마음이 세상 곳곳으로 번져가길 바라본다.

대흥사를 찾은 관광객들은 “차 한 잔의 온기 속에서 진정한 휴식을 느꼈다”며 “가을 햇살과 단풍, 그리고 차향이 어우러진 이곳이 마음의 고향처럼 느껴졌다.”고 감동을 전했다.

Hope and Compassion in a Cup of Tea, Warming the Heart
– “Hope Sharing Tea Gathering” at Daeheungsa Temple, in the Fragrance of Cho-ui’s Spirit –

On an autumn day filled with the fragrance of tea, a meaningful event embracing warmth and compassion unfolded at Daeheungsa Temple.
Hosted and organized by the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism’s Daeheungsa Temple, and sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism together with the Jogye Order Headquarters, the “Hope Sharing Tea Gathering” was held successfully in the tranquil precincts of the temple.
The gathering sought to carry forward the tea philosophy of Venerable Cho-ui in a modern way, creating a space of harmony and sharing where people could come together through tea.
A variety of programs took place, including a Seon Tea Meditation Experience, the Hope Sharing Tea Gathering, and an Exhibition of Moon Jars and Tea Utensils (Daam). The temple grounds were filled with the gentle aroma of tea and the warmth of bright smiles.
In particular, more than 30 teams from tea academies in Gwangju, Mokpo, Gangjin, Yeongam, Naju, and Haenam participated, adding vitality to the event as they carried on the tea spirit of Venerable Cho-ui. Participants shared the unique fragrance of their teas and practiced tea rituals with mindfulness, reflecting on the beauty of being together in harmony.
During the Seon Tea Meditation, many participants shared that “as the tea warms the body and the heat spreads within, worries fade away and one feels at peace, becoming one with nature.” The courtyard of Daeheungsa, bathed in autumn colors, offered a scene of calm serenity — the sunlight filtering through teacups felt like a quiet meditation in itself.
Venerable Beopsang, the chief monk of Daeheungsa Temple, remarked,
“This gathering is an opportunity to share the noble tea philosophy and compassionate spirit of Venerable Cho-ui. I sincerely thank all the devotees and members of the Cho-ui Tea Preservation Society who made this event shine.”
He added,
“May all who pause along the temple paths to taste tea receive abundant blessings for the kindness they share.”
Lee Young-mi, president of the Cho-ui Tea Preservation Society, expressed heartfelt gratitude:
“I deeply appreciate everyone who took part in this event. I hope each step you take home will be wrapped in the warmth of tea and gentle peace.”
Under the theme “Emptying the Mind and Finding the Self through Tea,” the event offered participants a moment of rest and deep reflection, touching their hearts with quiet inspiration.
Like the fragrance rising from a teacup, may the warmth shared at Daeheungsa spread softly throughout the world.
Visitors to Daeheungsa expressed their emotions, saying, “We felt true rest in the warmth of a single cup of tea. With the autumn sunlight, the colors of the leaves, and the scent of tea, this place felt like the home of our hearts.”
