“진도의 예술 혼, 영원히 빛나다” – 故 백포 곽남배님, ‘진도군민의 상’ 영예

진도군은 2025년 ‘진도군민의 상’ 수상자로 관광·문화·예술 부문에서 고(故) 백포 곽남배님을 선정했다고 23일 밝혔다.

‘진도군민의 상’은 진도를 대표하는 최고 명예로, 지역사회 발전과 군민 복리 향상에 헌신하며, 지역의 명예를 높인 개인이나 단체에 수여되는 상이다.

올해 심사는 10월 23일(목) ‘2025년 진도군민의 상 심사위원회’를 통해 진행됐다.

3년 만에 수상자로 선정된 고(故) 백포 곽남배님은 진도의 자연 풍광을 소재로 한 실경산수화로 한국화단의 중심인물로 자리 잡았다.

그의 독창적 화풍은 진도인의 예술적 자긍심을 높이고, 지역 문화예술의 위상을 드높였다.

특히 그의 대표 작품 75점은 운림산방 남도전통미술관에 전시되어 있으며, 관람객들에게 한국화의 아름다움과 진도 문화예술의 품격을 널리 알리고 있다.

한편, 진도군은 오는 11월 1일(토) 진도공설운동장에서 열리는 ‘제50회 진도군민의 날’ 기념식에서 ‘진도군민의 상’ 시상을 진행해 고인의 공로를 기릴 예정이다.

“The Spirit of Jindo’s Art Shines Forever” – Late Baekpo Kwak Nam-bae Honored with ‘Jindo Citizen Award’
Jindo County announced on the 23rd that the late Baekpo Kwak Nam-bae has been selected as the recipient of the 2025 ‘Jindo Citizen Award’ in the fields of tourism, culture, and the arts.
The ‘Jindo Citizen Award’ represents the highest honor in Jindo, awarded to individuals or organizations who have dedicated themselves to the development of the local community, the welfare of residents, and the enhancement of the county’s reputation.
This year’s selection was made through the 2025 Jindo Citizen Award Selection Committee held on Thursday, October 23.
After a three-year interval, the late Baekpo Kwak Nam-bae was chosen for his distinguished contribution to Korean painting. He became a central figure in the national art scene with his realistic landscape paintings depicting the natural scenery of Jindo.
His unique artistic style not only elevated the pride of the people of Jindo in their cultural heritage but also enhanced the reputation of local arts and culture.
Notably, 75 of his representative works are currently on display at the Unlim Sanbang Namdo Traditional Art Museum, introducing visitors to the beauty of Korean painting and the cultural sophistication of Jindo.
Jindo County will honor his legacy by presenting the ‘Jindo Citizen Award’ at the 50th Jindo Citizen’s Day Ceremony, to be held on Saturday, November 1, at the Jindo Public Stadium.
