진도군이 전통 소리와 공동체의 이야기를 담은 민속예술 다큐멘터리 ‘노래가 된 땅’을 제작, 오는 9월 24일(수) 오후 9시 40분 KBS1 광주·전남권에서 첫 방송한다.

이어 10월 4일(토) 오후 1시 5분에는 KBS1 전국 방송을 통해 시청자들을 만난다.

이번 작품은 ‘대한민국 문화도시 조성 사업’의 일환으로, 진도아리랑, 남도잡가, 씻김굿, 강강술래 등 진도의 대표 민속예술을 소재로 제작됐다.

단순한 전통 재현을 넘어, 삶의 고통을 함께 나누고 공동체를 지탱하는 힘을 그려내는 데 초점을 맞췄다.

특히 안나 예이츠 서울대 국악과 교수가 직접 진도를 찾아 시장 소리, 애소리, 흥소리, 씻김굿 등을 체험하며 진도 사람들의 삶과 예술적 정신을 조명한다.

또한 고(故) 조공례 명창을 비롯해 강송대 명인, 박성훈 선생, 김기선 선생, 소리꾼 김용우 등 전통예술인들이 출연해 다큐멘터리의 깊이를 더한다.

KBS 측은 “민속예술은 단순한 옛 노래가 아니라 공동체의 삶을 이어가는 힘”이라며 “이번 방송을 통해 진도의 예술혼을 널리 알리고 싶다.”고 밝혔다.

진도군 문화예술과 관계자는 “이번 방영으로 전통 민속예술의 가치가 재조명되고, 문화도시 진도의 위상이 전국적으로 확산될 것으로 기대한다.”고 말했다.

Life in Jindo Told Through Song… KBS Documentary “The Land That Became a Song” to Air
First broadcast in Gwangju–Jeonnam on September 24, nationwide broadcast on October 4
Jindo County has produced a folk art documentary, “The Land That Became a Song,” which tells the story of local communities through their traditional sounds. The program will premiere on KBS1 in the Gwangju–Jeonnam region on Wednesday, September 24 at 9:40 p.m., followed by a nationwide broadcast on Saturday, October 4 at 1:05 p.m.
Created as part of the “Korea Cultural City Project,” the work highlights Jindo’s representative folk arts such as Jindo Arirang, Namdo Japga, Ssitgimgut (shamanic ritual), and Ganggangsullae (circle dance). Rather than a simple reenactment of tradition, the documentary explores how these arts embody the sharing of life’s hardships and the strength that sustains community.
The film features Professor Anna Yates from Seoul National University’s Department of Korean Traditional Music, who visits Jindo to experience firsthand the sounds of the marketplace, songs of sorrow, songs of joy, and the Ssitgimgut ritual—shedding light on the lives and artistic spirit of the people of Jindo.
In addition, performances and insights from the late master singer Cho Gong-rye, master Kang Song-dae, teachers Park Seong-hoon and Kim Ki-seon, as well as renowned vocalist Kim Yong-woo, add further depth to the documentary.
A KBS representative commented, “Folk art is not merely an old song, but a force that sustains community life. Through this program, we hope to share the artistic soul of Jindo with a wider audience.”
An official from Jindo County’s Culture and Arts Division added, “We expect that this broadcast will help reintroduce the value of traditional folk arts and further raise Jindo’s status as a cultural city nationwide.”
